Reid gets Aggie men on board at NCAAs

Texas A&M's Julian Reid finished fourth in the men's long jump Thursday at the NCAA Outdoor Championships.

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. -- Texas A&M's Julian Reid scored the first points for the Aggie men at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, placing fourth in the long jump Thursday at John McDonnell Field.

Reid's leap of 26 feet, 1.5 inches earned the Aggie men five points in the team race. A&M teammate Tyron Stewart placed 10th at 25-3.5.

Arkansas leads the men's race after Day 2 with 14 points. Arizona is second at 11 followed by Florida State, Oregon and Arizona State at 10. A&M is tied for 10th with its five points.

Trinity Otto was fifth in the decathlon with the javelin and 1,500 meters remaining late Thursday night.

On the women's side, Florida leads at 13 points followed by Florida State at 12 and Providence at 10. The Aggie women have yet to score a point but will have chances Friday in the 100 meters, 400 relay and javelin.

The Aggies also advanced three sprinters in the 200 on Thursday, while the A&M men's 1,600 relay team reached the final.

In the women's 200, Porscha Lucas won her opening round and semifinal races, finishing in 22.52 and 22.38 seconds.

In the men's 200, Chris Dykes and Gerald Phiri each advanced to the finals.

A&M's foursome of Tran Howell, Bryan Miller, Kyle Dykhuizen and Justin Oliver finished second in its qualifying heat in 3:05.76 to advance to the finals of the 1,600 relay. Baylor, Florida State, Mississippi State, South Carolina, Florida, Southern California, Louisiana State and Texas Tech also advanced.

A&M's 1,600 women's relay team just missed qualifying for the finals.

In the women's 100 hurdles, Gabby Mayo and Vashti Thomas advanced to the semifinals.

In the men's 110 hurdles, De'Lon Isom finished in 14.00 to advance to the semifinals as a time qualifier.

The Aggie women had one finisher in a finals race Thursday. Christina Munoz placed 19th in the 10,000 in 35:33.49.
