Aggies earns two gold medals at UCLA Invitational

Westwood, Calif. -- The Texas A&M track and field team picked up a pair of victories Friday at the UCLA Rafer Johnson/Jackie Joyner-Kersee Invitational.

A&M's Zuheir Sharif won the men's long jump with a leap of 23 feet, 8 inches, while teammate Tyron Stewart took third (23-2).

In the women's 200 meters, A&M's Elizabeth Adeoti won in 23.86 seconds with teammate Ashika Charan taking third (24.40).

Also for A&M, Joe Sauvageau earned an NCAA regional qualifying mark in the steeplechase (9:04.07). Morquise Cleveland placed fifth overall in the 400 at 47.67, while Kyle Dykhuizen finished 11th at 48.72 and Jonathan Collins finished 14th in 48.92.

On the women's side, Yasmine Regis finished fourth in the long jump at 18-8 for A&M.

The meet ends Saturday at Drake Stadium.
