E-mail to a friend Texas A&M senior Anna Blagodarova received the women's tennis team's Cindy Churchwell Aggie Heart Award at the team's gathering for the NCAA selection announcement earlier this week.
Blagodarova is 20-17 overall in singles and was the Big 12's No. 3 singles champion with a 9-2 record. She was named to the All-Big 12 Team for doubles along with Tiffany Clifford. They went 5-4 in Big 12 matches at the No. 1 line.
"Anna is a type of player who really leaves everything out there," A&M head coach Bobby Kleinecke said. "She shows everything that she's got and plays every point with everything that she's got. She was a good choice for us for the Heart Award. She's developed into a great player for us and has been such a great competitor for us."
The award is named after the former Aggie standout who was the first recipient of the honor in1990-91. Kleinecke said the award is presented to the player who "went out every day and would do everything for the team, fought like crazy, never gave up and played with so much heart."
The winner of the P.D. Gandy award, which goes to the player who compiles the most singles and doubles victories, will be presented after the season.
Director of tennis operations Kevin O'Shea was presented the Aggie Spirit Award.
