Wilkinson qualifies for Olympics

MONTREAL -- Texas A&M junior Julia Wilkinson qualified for her first Olympics after setting the Canadian record twice in the 100-meter backstroke.

Wilkinson finished in 1 minute, 1.76 seconds in the morning preliminaries, then won in 1:01.41 in the finals at the Canadian Olympic Trials.

Erin Gammel held the previous record, swimming a 1:01.93 in 2005.

Former A&M swimmer Robbie Taylor tied for first in the men's 100 backstroke with Jake Tapp in 55.53. Former A&M All-American Matt Rose was third in 55.66.
