NCAA regional meet set for Saturday: WACO -- Led by seniors Mitch Bible, Andrew Montes and Joe Sauvageau, Texas A&M's men's cross country team will try to defend its NCAA South Central Region championship Saturday at the Cottonwood Creek Golf Course.
The top two teams at each of nine regionals will advance to the NCAA championships, along with the top four individual finishers not on an advancing team.
The men's 10,000-meter race begins at 10 a.m., with the women's 6,000-meter race at 11 a.m.
A&M's men are ranked third in the region, while the Aggie women are sixth.
The Aggie men snapped Arkansas' 18-year winning streak in the event last year. It was just the sixth time A&M's men qualifed for the national meet (1961, 1982, 1999, 2002, 2003, 2008).
SWIMMING & DIVING
Aggie men to swim in season's first dual meet: BOSTON -- The Texas A&M men's swimming and diving team will face Harvard and Boston University on a two-match road swing through New England this weekend.
The Aggies will face Harvard at 10 a.m. Friday at the Crimson's Blodgett Pool in A&M's season-opening dual match. A&M will then take on the Terriers at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Boston University's Competition Pool.
"We wanted to compete against some teams that we're not familiar with, and get out of our comfort zone a little bit," Aggie head swimming coach Jay Holmes said. "Both Harvard and Boston are solid teams, especially in the distance events, and I'm expecting a tough challenge. We're excited to come up here and do some racing. We've been training for a while, and it will be good to see where we are against some new competition."
VOLLEYBALL
Aggies to face No. 9 Nebraska on Friday: LINCOLN, Neb. -- Texas A&M will face its third straight Top 20 opponent when it faces No. 9 Nebraska at 7 p.m. Friday at Nebraska Coliseum.
A&M (14-9, 7-8 Big 12) ended a 19-match losing streak to the Huskers earlier this season with a 3-1 victory at Reed Arena. A&M tied with Missouri for sixth place in the Big 12 standings after losing 3-0 to No. 8 Iowa State on Wednesday at Reed Arena.
Nebraska (18-6, 11-4) is in third and was off Wednesday after sweeping the Cyclones on Saturday in Ames, Iowa.
