GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Texas A&M senior Erin Glasco hit a solo homer in the bottom of the first inning, and freshman Rebecca Arbino made it stand, shutting out the Lehigh Mountain Hawks 1-0 on Friday in opening-round action at the NCAA Gainesville Regional.
A&M (32-20) will face the regional host and top seed Florida Gators at noon Saturday. Florida (56-3) advanced by beating Florida A&M 12-0 in five innings.
Glasco hit her fifth home run of the season on a two-out, full-count pitch.
Arbino (12-7) didn't need any more support. She held Lehigh (36-17-1) to four hits while striking out six without issuing a walk to earn her fifth shutout of the season.
"Becca did a really good job to shut down their hitters," A&M head coach Jo Evans said. "She was in total control, and I never saw her look uncomfortable. For a freshman in her first postseason start, she did a really nice job."
A thunderstorm blew through Gainesville before the sixth inning began, suspending play for 1 hour and 12 minutes. When the teams returned to the field, Arbino retired the side in order. She struck out a batter in every inning but one and allowed only two Lehigh baserunners to reach second base.
