SOFTBALL
Aggies win pair in San Diego: SAN DIEGO -- Texas A&M beat Harvard 10-1 in six innings and held off Long Beach State 4-2 at the San Diego Classic II on Friday.
Rebecca Arbino (12-3) shut out Harvard (4-10) for five innings to earn the victory. She struck out six, allowing just two hits. A&M catcher Meagan May went 2 for 4 with a home run and four RBIs. Melissa Dumezich also hit her fifth homer of the season.
Against Long Beach State, May homered again, but her RBI double in the third drove in what proved to be the game-winning run. May has 12 homers this season, and her six RBIs pushed her total to 40 in 30 games. She's leading the team in hitting (.460), slugging (1.034) and on-base percentage (.580).
A&M will face Massachusetts and Illinois-Chicago on Saturday in the Classic II.
SWIMMING & DIVING
Aggie women in sixth at national meet: WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- The Texas A&M women's swimming and diving team is in sixth place after two days of the NCAA Championships at the Boilermaker Aquatic Center.
A&M's highlight Friday came in the 800-yard freestyle and the 3-meter springboard event.
A&M's Kristin Heiss, Melissa Hain, Maureen McLaine and Julia Wilkinson took fourth in the relay in 7:02.55. Divers Jaele Patrick and Janie Potvin combined for 27 points on the 3-meter board with Patrick taking third and Potvin eighth.
Stanford leads with 266.5 points followed by Georgia (262.5), Arizona (259.5), California (256), Florida (236), A&M (216), Southern California (169), Virginia (110), Texas (87.5) and Auburn (87).
A&M is in line for its fourth straight Top 10 finish at the national meet.
The Championships wrap up Saturday with finals starting at 6 p.m.
TENNIS
A&M women blank Kansas in Big 12 opener: The Texas A&M women's team opened Big 12 play by shutting out Kansas 7-0 in front of 341 at the Mitchell Tennis Center on Friday.
A&M (6-4, 1-0) swept the doubles matchess and won five of six singles matches in straight sets.
A&M will host Kansas State at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Mitchell Tennis Center. The Aggie men also will be playing Louisville as part of a doubleheader.

Aggie men sweep pair of matches: The 18th-ranked Texas A&M men's tennis team beat Lamar and No. 24 Pepperdine by 6-1 scores in a doubleheader Friday at the Mitchell Tennis Center.
The Aggies (10-4) won both doubles points, sweeping Lamar and needing Alexis Kelgou and Marcus Lunt's 8-6 victory over Sebastian Fanselow and Alejandro Moreno on the third line to take a 1-0 lead over Pepperdine.
A&M's 21st-ranked Austin Krajicek beat Pepperdine's 40th-ranked Bassam Beidas 2-6, 6-4, 6-3 at No. 1 singles. Krajicek and Jeff Dadamo, ranked ninth nationally in doubles, also beat Beidas and Alex Llompart 8-3 in doubles. Beidas and Llompart are 25th nationally.

Aggie freshman sets meet record in javelin: CAROLINA, Puerto Rico -- Texas A&M freshman Sam Humphreys won the javelin in the Aggies' first outdoor meet of the season, throwing a career-best 240 feet, 3 inches to set the meet record at the fifth annual Carolina Spring Break Classic.
"I've been waiting for this since we started training last August," Humphreys said. "Even waiting through the indoor season, I've been itching to throw."
A&M's Laura Asimakis also set a career mark in winning the pole vault with a clearance of 12-11. Aly Daily took second at 11-1.75.
A&M went 1-2-3 in the mens' pole vault. Colton Sandman and Kaleb Shrader each cleared 15-1 and Sandman won based on fewer misses. Brett Bennett took third at 14-9.
A&M's Emalie Humphreys took second in the women's javelin 158-5. Puerto Rico's Coralys Ortiz won at 163-9.
