TRACK & FIELD
Three Aggies advance to semifinals at World Championships: BERLIN -- Tyrone Edgar, Gerald Phiri and Jessica Beard all advanced to the semifinals of the 12th IAAF World Championships in track and field at the 1936 Olympic Stadium.
Great Britain's Edgar and Zambia's Phiri raced in the same heat and both advanced in the 100-meter dash. Beard qualified in the 400.
Joining the action on Sunday will be A&M sophomore triple jumper Julian Reid, who competes for Jamaica, as well as Aggie volunteer assistant Muna Lee in the women's 100.
SOCCER
No. 7 Aggies dominate exhibition match: The No. 7 Texas A&M soccer team put on a dominating performance in its exhibition match against UAB on Saturday night with a 4-0 victory in front of 915 fans at the Aggie Soccer Stadium.
Four different Aggies scored, including two freshmen, and every fit and healthy A&M player saw time on the field. Aggie head coach G Guerrieri and the team gave fans their money’s worth as the teams played an extra 20 minutes after the full 90-minutes.
The Aggie offense started quickly, earning its first corner kick just three minutes into the match. The initial corner was cleared by the defense, but junior Rachel Shipley immediately knocked a header back to the near post that was saved on the line by a UAB defender.
Seven minutes in, freshman Kimberly Castleberry headed in the first goal of the game off of a cross from sophomore Beth West.
Shipley made it 2-0 on a penalty kick after Whitney Hooper was taken down near the end line.
Just over 20 minutes into the second half, West added to the Aggies’ lead. After a pass from Castleberry, West dribbled past two defenders and slid a shot across the goal into the right-side netting.
Freshman Catalina Clavijo finished off the scoring in the game’s 80th minute. She chased down a long ball from sophomore Kat Armstrong and finished it off past a diving UAB keeper.
Texas A&M outshot the Blazers 29-6 and took the edge in corner kicks, 8-7. Of the Aggies’ 11 shots on goal, freshman Mary Grace Schmidt and sophomore Lisel Kraus each blasted shots from 30+ yards that bounced off the crossbar.
The Aggies open the regular season against No. 8 USC on Saturday at the Aggie Soccer Stadium.

Comment Title: THE UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS AT AUSTIN IS WINNING MORE 4*/5* DIFFERENCE MAKERS THAN A&M?
My personal opinions:____The formula Mack Brown has used has worked to perfection while Mike Sherman has only been 42.5% of the coach Mack Brown is?____With 4 classed now signed and in the book, Sherman will only win 42.5% of his games in 2009, 2010, 2011, and 2012?____I demand a new coach now!____miller58
