TENNIS

Aggies fall just short against No. 3 Ohio State: COLUMBUS, Ohio - The 17th-ranked Texas A&M men's tennis team fell to third-ranked Ohio State 4-3 on Sunday at the OSU Varsity Indoor Tennis Center.

The Aggies (7-4) won three singles matches to stay within striking distance of the Buckeyes (12-1) after dropping the doubles point for the first time in five matches. Junior Alexey Grigorov tied the match up at 1-1 with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Shuhei Uzawa at the No. 4 line, while freshman Alberto Bautista added another point for A&M with a win over Matt Allare, 6-4, 2-6, 7-6 (4), at No. 5. Both OSU players were members of last year's 36-2 squad that reached the national title match in College Station.

Junior Jeff Dadamo beat Dino Marcan, 3-6, 7-6 (2), 6-4, at No. 2, but it wasn't enough.

Ohio State swept the doubles point with victories by Chase Buchanan and Dino Marcan; Matt Allare and Shuhei Uzawa; and Balazs Novak and Justin Kronauge. Buchanan went on to end Austin Krajicek's seven-match winning streak in singles.

The Aggies return home to face No. 10 California on Friday. First serve is set for 6 p.m. at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center.
