The 13th-ranked Texas A&M soccer team's final tuneup before Big 12 play was a success, with four different players scoring in a 4-0 victory over Sam Houston State on Sunday at the Aggie Soccer Stadium.
A&M improved to 5-3-0 heading into Friday's league opener at Baylor.
Junior Whitney Hooper, coming off a two-goal effort in the Aggies' victory over No. 2 Portland on Friday, netted her third goal of the weekend. Freshman Nora Skelton and sophomore Katie Hamilton scored their first career goals, and senior Cydne Currie scored for the first time this season.
"We knew that Sam Houston was going to come in and battle hard, and we got off a lot of shots," A&M coach G. Guerrieri said. "I mentioned to the players after the win on Friday that we wanted to come in and put an exclamation point on what was a good performance that night and I thought we did that well today."
A&M compiled 41 shots, 21 of which were on goal.
The Aggies' first tally came in the 12th minute when junior Rachel Shipley sent a cross from the left side into the six-yard box where Castleberry one-timed a shot that went off the top corner of the far post and to the foot of Hooper, who finished on the right side.
Four minutes into the second period, Skelton struck from 25 yards out. Hamilton connected from inside the box in the 68th minute, and Currie's goal came in the 79th.
A&M keepers Kristin Arnold and Kelly Dyer did not have make a stop all day.
