Josh Carter became the second Aggie underclassman to put his name in the 2008 NBA draft, joining freshman DeAndre Jordan on Thursday.

Like Jordan, Carter did not hire an agent, giving him the option to return to Texas A&M for his senior season.

Players have until Sunday to declare for the draft and until June 16 to remove their names. The draft is June 26.

Jordan made his announcement on April 9 and also declined to hire an agent.

"It's a win-win situation for me," Carter said. "If I go to the NBA, it will fulfill a lifelong dream. If not, I get to come back and play for the university I love."

Carter, a 6-foot-7 guard from Dallas Lake Highlands, earned honorable mention All-Big 12 honors for the second straight season after leading the team with a 12.2 scoring average.

As a sophomore, Carter averaged 11.8 points a game and led the nation by sinking 50 percent of his 3-point attempts.

Carter's percentage from behind the arc dropped to 38 this season, but his free-throw percentage jumped to 82 percent. He also averaged four rebounds a game.

At the beginning of the season, Carter was predicted to be a late first-round choice in the mock drafts. When he made his announcement Thursday, Carter's name wasn't listed in the mock drafts.

Carter, who has started 60 straight games for the Aggies, had his best outing of the 2007-08 season in the first round of the NCAA Tournament against BYU. Carter matched his career high with 26 points on 10-of-16 shooting and had five rebounds in the Aggies' 67-62 victory. He was one of two Aggies to reach double figures with 10 in the season-ending 51-49 loss to UCLA.

Three times in his career, Carter has hit for eight 3-pointers, the last coming at Nebraska on Feb. 10, 2007.

Carter's brother, Warren, played professionally last season in Turkey after four years at Illinois.
