Coach Mark Turgeon's family outing was momentarily interrupted Sunday.
The Texas A&M men's basketball coach didn't mind one bit when he realized it was Jordan Green calling to verbally commit to the Aggies.
"I got out of church and felt like it was the right decision, so I gave him a call," Green said from his home in Flower Mound. "He was really excited. He was actually at a family event, and I said I'm sorry [for interrupting], but he was really excited."
Green is the second verbal commitment from the 2011 class. He joins five-star guard Jamal Branch.
Green is a 6-foot-3 combo guard who came off the bench as a sophomore last season at Flower Mound High School and averaged 8.5 points a game, second on the team. Despite barely playing double-digit minutes, Green was voted second team all-district.
Green, a three-star recruit according to Rivals.com, is said to be a player who can shoot off the catch or the dribble and has a lot of upside. The left-hander flew under the radar -- he's ESPN.com's No. 31 shooting guard -- until he played AAU ball for the first time this summer.
Green also spent a small part of his summer at the Texas A&M Elite Camp. It was there he put A&M at the front of his list.
"I'd been to a couple of other elite camps before A&M. [A&M] didn't just roll the ball out, they taught us, instructed us before the games," Green said. "Coach Turgeon and his staff were all business. They were there to make you better and I was impressed by that."
Green also had offers from UNLV, Utah, and SMU.
"I felt like Texas A&M was the perfect place to go so I decided to commit. [Committing early] takes a lot of pressure off me and at the same time puts a lot pressure on me," Green said . "I know I have to work on my strength and get my school work straight, making As, so I can be ready to go to college."
ESPN.com's Reggie Rankin said Green reminds many in the Dallas area of a young Tayshaun Prince, who plays for the Detroit Pistons.
"I just worked my tail off and no one knew about me," said Green, who agreed with the evaluation. "And when I came on the scene I came on pretty hard. People still don't have respect for me and that's why I keep working hard."
