Texas A&M freshman Ray Turner was cleared by the NCAA on Thursday and practiced with the men's basketball team that afternoon.
"That's great news," A&M head coach Mark Turgeon said. "He deserves it."
The 6-foot-8 forward from Houston Jones did individual preseason workouts for about a week before A&M held him out as the NCAA reviewed his eligibility status.
Turner's progress in practice over the next there weeks will determine if he'll play during the Big 12 season or redshirt, Turgeon said.
Turner will be able to suit out Saturday back home at the Houston Toyota Center when the 16th-ranked Aggies (8-1) play New Mexico (9-0).
