Gratny ties for second at NRHA Reining Championship: OKLAHOMA CITY -- Texas A&M junior Maggie Gratny finished in a tie for second with Texas Tech's Alicia Daugherty at the National Reining Horse Association's Collegiate Reining Championship on Saturday.

Auburn's Lyndsey Jordan won with 218 points, while Gratny and Daugherty finished at 214.5. Oklahoma State's Bri Parnell and Georgia's Kate Stewart tied for fourth at 212.

Gratny's finish is the best in school history at the event. Quincy Cahill (2002), Tonna Brooks (2006), and Maddi Williams (2007) each placed third.

TRACK & FIELD

Beard earns spot on U.S. national team: EUGENE, Ore. -- Texas A&M's Jessica Beard took third in the finals of the 400 meters to qualify for the World Championships on Saturday at the U.S. Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

Beard will join A&M volunteer assistant coach Aries Merritt, who placed third in the 110 hurdles, and volunteer assistant Muna Lee, who took second in the 100 finals Friday.

A&M's Dominique Duncan earned a spot on the U.S. junior team by placing second in the junior 200.

Also on Saturday, A&M's Michael Preble advanced to the finals of the junior 400, while Porscha Lucas, Jeneba Tarmoh, Chris Dykes, Lee, Wallace Spearmon and Kelly Willie reached the semifinals of the 200. Spearmon and Willie are volunteer assistants.

Aggies fare well at Jamaica Championships: Texas A&M's Julian Reid won the triple jump Friday at the Jamaica Championships with a leap of 53 feet, 1.5 inches.

A&M's Simone Facey took forth in the 100 meters, and Clora Williams reached the finals of the 400.
