VOLLEYBALL
Aggies split two matches: SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Texas A&M split a pair of matches Saturday at the JQH Invitational, defeating North Carolina 3-2 before falling to Ohio 3-1 at the Hammons Center.
Kelsey Black had a match-high 20 kills against the Tar Heels, while Lindsey Miller and Elise Hendrickson marked career highs with 15 and 13 in a 21-25, 25-22, 22-25, 25-20, 15-12 victory. Tori Mellinger tied her career high in digs with 24 and Allie Sawatzky added 15 digs and 56 assists.
In their second match of the day, the Aggies (3-4) fell to Ohio 29-27, 25-18, 15-25, 26-24. Black had 22 kills and 15 digs.
A&M will conclude its pre-conference schedule at the University of Denver Pioneer Classic, where they will face the Pioneers, Jacksonville State and Gonzaga, Friday through Saturday.
CROSS COUNTRY
Three Aggies finish in Top 10 at New Mexico meet: ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- A trio of Aggie runners placed in the Top 10 on Saturday during the Lobo Invitational hosted by the University of New Mexico on its North Golf Course.
MacLean O'Donnell led the Texas A&M men with a fifth-place effort, covering the 8,000-meter course in 25 minutes, 16.7 seconds. Katherine Devlin and Natosha Rogers led the Lady Ags, finishing sixth and eighth respectively in the 5,000-meter race with times of 17:44.5 and 17:45.4.
The Lobos had the top men's finisher in Rory Fraser (24:31.4) while UTEP's Risper Kimaiyo (17:00.4) claimed the women's race.
A&M's Kevin Burnett placed 15th as he clocked 25:35.9. Will Barry claimed 18th in 25:47.0, while Jimmy Welin recorded a 25:59.0 for 25th. Stephen Curry finished 32nd, clocking 26:08.0.
The next two spots belonged to Aggies also in Chad Brown (26:10.7) and Ryan Miller (26:20.5). Also competing for A&M were Dylan Williams (40th, 26:36.8) and Austin Geerts (41st, 26:44.7).
Following Devlin and Rogers, the next pair of A&M women to finish the race were Itzel Cetina in 24th and Amanda Jenkins in 25th. Cetina placed in 18:57.9 as Jenkins finished at 19:03.6.
Gabby Salazar led the Aggie newcomers in 28th with a time of 19:10.3. Sophie Blake (19:42.6) and Kasey McNorton (19:44.1) finished in tandem, placing 33rd and 34th, while Colbea Harris (20:03.6) placed 36th.
The next competition for the squad is Friday in the Texas A&M Invitational at the Penberthy Intramural Fields. The first high school race starts at 5:30 p.m., while the women's collegiate race begins at 6:20 and the men's collegiate race is set for 7:35.
