Aggies in third at Collegiate Masters: LAS VEGAS -- The No. 8 Texas A&M men's golf team shot a first-round 7-over 295 to stand in third place after the first day of the Southern Highland Collegiate Masters on Friday.
Florida leads at 292 followed by UCLA at 294. UNLV is tied for fourth with USC at 296.
A&M senior Andrea Pavan shot a 2-under 70 and is tied for third individually. Other Aggie scorers were Cameron Peck and Jordan Russell (tie 16th, 74), Ignacio Elvira (t-46th, 77) and Geoff Shaw (t-68th, 81). Competing as an individual, John Hurley shot an 80 and is tied for 68th.
SOFTBALL
Aggies win two at Invitational: Texas A&M beat Utah State 10-4 and Wright State 5-0 in the Aggie Invitational on Friday at the Aggie Softball Complex.
Utah State (8-7) roughed up A&M starter Rhiannon Kliesing in the first inning, collecting four runs on four hits including a three-run homer by Kelley Kaneshiro. A&M's Melissa Dumezich (4-0) earned the victory in relief, shutting out Utah State over the final six innings. She allowed just two hits and a walk with six strikeouts.
Kliesing went 5 for 5 at the plate with a homer and three RBIs. Teammate Alex Reynolds went 4 for 4 with three RBIs.
Rebecca Arbino (9-3) earned the victory against Wright State, allowing three hits with no walks and eight strikeouts over seven innings. Dumezich drove in the winning run by drawing a bases-loaded walk in the third inning. A&M added four insurance runs in the fifth, scoring all four with two outs.
A&M (19-6) will host North Dakota State (13-7) at 3 p.m. and Utah State at 5:15 p.m. Saturday.
SWIMMING & DIVING
Patrick, Nel earn NCAA Championship bids: Texas A&M's Grant Nel won the men's 3-meter diving event at the Zone D Diving Regional at the A&M Student Rec Center Natatorium on Friday to earn his spot to the NCAA Men's Swimming & Diving Championships.
Nel amassed 828.20 points. Texas' Matthew Cooper (800.10) finished second and Drew Livingston (791.95) third to earn NCAA bids.
A&M's Jaele Patrick also earned a spot in the NCAA Women's Championships with a third-place finish in the women's 1-meter springboard event. Houston's Anastasia Pozdniakova won with 683.55 points, while Minnesota's Kelci Bryant was second at 664.80 and Patrick third at 630.85.
TENNIS
Aggie men upset No. 11 California: The Texas A&M men's tennis team upset No. 11 California 5-2 on Friday night at the Mitchell Tennis Center.
A&M (8-4) swept the doubles matches to take a 1-0 team lead. Then in singles, Jeff Dadamo gave A&M a 2-0 lead with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Christoffer Konigsfeldt at No. 3 singles. Alberto Bautista pushed the lead to 3-1 with a 7-5, 6-0 victory over Bozhidar Katsarov at No. 4 singles.
California's Pedro Zerbini beat Austin Krajicek 6-4, 6-4 at No. 1 singles to cut the lead to 3-1, but Alexis Klegou clinched the team victory for A&M with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Jonathan Dahan at No. 5 singles.
The Aggies will host Lamar and Pepperdine in a doubleheader on March 19.

TRACK & FIELD
Aggie wins 200 national title: FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. -- Texas A&M's Curtis Mitchell won the men's 200 meters Friday at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships at the Randal Tyson Track Center.
Mitchell broke a 22-year-old school record with his time of 20.38 seconds. Stanley Kerr set the previous record of 20.63 in 1988.
"I'm new to the scene, so I've been working hard," Mitchell said.
A&M's Jeneba Tarmoh finished fifth in the women's 200 at 23.29.
The meet continues Saturday with several Aggies qualified in finals.
