GOLF

Mansfield's Yates signs with Aggie men: Mansfield High's Gregory Yates signed with the Texas A&M men's golf team Wednesday.

The senior finished fifth individually at the Class 5A state tournament last year. Yates is No. 76 nationally in the Polo Junior Golf Rankings.

"Greg has a solid all-around game with no real weaknesses," A&M coach J.T. Higgins said. "He's an excellent ball striker who has shown the ability to post low scores in tournament conditions. He definitely has the talent to compete for a spot in the lineup the moment he steps on campus."

SOFTBALL

Aggies sign five for 2010-11 season: The Texas A&M softball team signed five high school seniors Wednesday -- infielder/outfielder Emily Albus of Brenham, infielder Amber Garza of Sugar Land Elkins, catcher Nicole Morgan of The Woodlands College Park, infielder Taran Tyler of Katy High and first baseman-outfielder Cassie Tysarczyk of Smithson Valley.

Garza is an NFCA All-American and two-time all-state player. Morgan is an Under-Armour All-American who was the District 15-5A offensive player of the year last season. Tysarczyk helped Smithson Valley to the Class 5A state championship last year, and Tyler is a two-time all-state player.

"This recruiting class is one of the best recruiting classes I have had in my 25 years of being a head coach," A&M head coach Jo Evans said. "This class has the ability to compete at the level of our 2008 class that featured three NCAA All-Americans and competed in two Women's College World Series."
