Aggie men finish fifth in New Mexico: ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- The seventh-ranked Texas A&M men's golf team shot 11-over 299 on Saturday and finished fifth at the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate at the University of New Mexico's Championship Golf Course.
UNLV won with a three-round 843. San Diego State was second at 859 followed by BYU (867), Baylor (868) and A&M and Pepperdine at 869.
A&M junior John Hurley led the Aggies with a 3-under 213. Senior Andrea Pavan tied for 18th at 216 followed by freshman Cameron Peck and sophomore Geoff Shaw (220, tied for 24th) and junior Nacho Elvira at 222 tied for 41st.
UNLV's Derek Ernst and Colby Smith tied for first individually at 208.
The Aggies will continue their fall schedule Sept. 27-28 at the NCAA Preview in Seattle.
VOLLEYBALL
Aggies win tournament in San Marcos: SAN MARCOS -- Texas A&M beat Texas State 25-17, 25-17, 25-20 on Saturday to complete a sweep of the Texas State CenturyTel Premier at Strahan Coliseum.
A&M (7-1) beat Hofstra and Texas Southern by 3-0 scores to open the tournament Friday.
Senior outside hitter Sarah Ammerman led A&M with 12 kills and earned tournament MVP honors. Senior outside hitter Mary Batis and feshman middle blocker Lindsey Miller also made the all-tournament team.
The Aggies will open Big 12 play Saturday at Texas Tech.
