Boland ties school record with 65: SORRENTO, Fla. -- Texas A&M senior Julia Boland tied the school record with a 7-under-par 65 in Monday's opening round at the UCF Challenge at RedTail Golf Club.
Boland's 65-75--140 total through 36 holes leads the individual standings by one stroke over teammate Sarah Zwartynski (70-71--141) going into Tuesday's final round.
Boland, the No. 6 amateur in the world according to Golfweek, tied the school record set by Ashley Knoll at the 2005 Lady Tar Heel Invitational. She started the opening round with seven pars before carding birdies on seven of her next 10 holes. She had five straight birdies starting on the par-4 13th.
The 16th-ranked Aggies (22 over) are tied with Baylor and host UCF for second place in the team standings, seven strokes behind leader Georgia State (15 over).
Zwartynski was the only player in the field to break par in both rounds Monday.
A&M senior Ashley Freeman is tied for 61st (80-78--158) and freshman Chloe Garner is tied for 73rd (81-81--162). Junior Alexa Porter, competing as an individual, is in 88th place (84-86--170).
Freshman Sarah Beth Davis opened with a 78 but withdrew from the second round with a sore shoulder.
