A&M men set to open season: TUCSON, Ariz. -- The sixth-ranked Texas A&M men's golf team opens its spring season Monday at the Arizona Invitational at Arizona National Golf Club.
The 14-team field will play 36 holes Monday and a final 18 on Tuesday. Live scoring is available online at golfstat.com.
Other teams in the field are No. 3 Florida, No. 24 San Diego State, California, Fresno State, Nevada, New Mexico, Northern Colorado, Pepperdine, Texas-El Paso, Texas-San Antonio, UNLV and host Arizona (two squads).
Representing the defending national champion Aggies will be juniors John Hurley and Nacho Elvira, senior Andrea Pavan, sophomore Geoff Shaw and freshman Cameron Peck. Sophomore Jordan Russell will play as an individual.
TENNIS
A&M men beat Oklahoma State: The 12th-ranked Texas A&M men's tennis team defeated No. 24th Oklahoma State 4-1 on Sunday to close out ITA Kick-Off Weekend tournament play at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center.
Junior All-American Austin Krajicek clinched the match for the Aggies (3-1) with a victory over defending Big 12 player of the year Oleksandr Nedovyesov at No. 1 singles.
The Aggies, who fell to 46th-ranked Fresno State on Saturday, claimed the doubles point Sunday behind Krajicek and Jeff Dadamo. They beat Nedovyesov and Alexsey Bessonov, and Marcus Lunt and Alexey Grigorov edged Maximilian Kuhn and Ilija Martinoski.
Also contributing to the final team score were Alberto Bautista and Jeff Dadamo, who each picked up singles victories
Fresno State blanked 34th-ranked Rice 4-0 to advance to the ITA National Team Indoor Championships, Feb. 11-14 in Charlottesville, Va.
The Aggies return to action Friday against rival Texas for the Texas Cup. The match, which doesn't count toward the Big 12 standings, begins at 6 p.m. at the Downtown Club at The Met in Houston.

Aggie women fall to Illinois: CLEMSON, S.C. -- After a tough loss to Clemson on Saturday, the Texas A&M women's tennis team couldn't get going as it fell to No. 32 Illinois 4-2 on Sunday in a consolation match of the ITA Kick-Off Weekend at the Clemson Indoor Tennis Center.
In the first meeting between the two programs, Illinois won two of the three doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead going into singles play.
A&M's Elzé Potgieter, ranked 88th, tied the score with a straight-set victory over No. 33 Rachael White at No. 1 singles. It was Potgieter's 79th career victory, moving her to within three wins of A&M's Top 10 career singles victories list.
Morgan Frank defeated Megan Fudge at No. 2 singles to give A&M (0-2) a 2-1 lead before Breanne Smutko beat Lauren Santacroce at the No. 4 line to knot the score at 2-2.
Chelcie Abajian regained the lead for the Illini (1-3), holding off Nazari Urbina at the No. 3 line, and Marisa Lambropoulos clinched the team victory with a win over Sheri Olivier at No. 5.
The Aggies face No. 28 LSU at 11 a.m. Sunday in Baton Rouge, La.
