Hodge's ace leads Aggie men into tie for 11th: ALPHARETTA, Ga. -- Texas A&M senior Clay Hodge had a hole-in-one and the No. 24 Aggies opened with an 8-over 296 on Sunday at the United States Collegiate Championship at the Golf Club of Georgia.

No. 4 Clemson leads after posting a 5-under 283, one shot better than UCLA (284).

Hodge aced the 168-yard, par-3 13th hole with a 7-iron and finished at 3-over 75.

The Aggies were led by senior Bronson Burgoon and freshman Geoff Shaw, who are tied for 23rd after carding 1-over 73s. Hodge and junior Andrea Pavan (75) are tied for 43rd, and sophomore Nacho Elvira is in 74th after shooting an 81.

UCLA's Erik Flores is the individual leader after posting a 7-under 65.

A&M women finish 14th at Arizona State Invitational: TEMPE, Ariz. -- Texas A&M closed with a 309 on Sunday and finished 14th at the PING/Arizona State Invitational at the Karsten Golf Course.

Fifth-ranked Oklahoma State captured the title with a 54-hole score of 881, edging No. 12 Purdue (882) by one stroke. Purdue's Maria Hernandez won individual honors with a five-under total of 72-69-70--211.

A&M sophomore Sarah Zwartynski (76-75-73--124) tied for 15th, senior Lauren Johnson (81-72-78--231) tied for 43rd, sophomore Stephanie Smith (74-81-78--233) tied for 55th, junior Ashley Freeman (80-79-80--239) tied for 74th and sophomore Alexa Porter (85-80-81--246) placed 84th.

The Aggies are idle until the Big 12 Championship, April 24-26 in Lubbock.

SOCCER

Aggies beat BYU, tie LSU: The Texas A&M soccer team battled LSU to a scoreless draw Saturday before downing BYU 2-0 in the evening at the Aggie Soccer Stadium.

A&M sophomore Alyssa Mautz netted both goals against the Cougars, in the 19th and 32nd minutes. Mautz's first goal was assisted by junior Amber Gnatzig.

Against the Tigers, the Aggies controlled almost all the action despite a strong southerly wind and a determined LSU defense.

A&M outshot LSU 14-3 but couldn't find the back of the net in a 75-minute match.

A&M continues its spring season against Big 12 tournament champion Oklahoma State at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Aggie Soccer Stadium.

TENNIS

Aggie women win seventh straight: The Texas A&M women's tennis team picked up its seventh consecutive victory, defeating No. 53 Colorado 5-2 in windy conditions Sunday at the Mitchell Tennis Center.

The 33rd-ranked Aggies, riding their longest winning streak since they won eight in a row in 2007, improved to 11-6 overall and 7-1 in Big 12 play. Colorado (9-7, 5-2), which set a school record after starting conference play 5-0, dropped its second straight match.

Colorado jumped out to an early lead in the fight for the doubles point, as Camila Belassi and Melisa Esposito won the first seven games at the No. 1 line and beat A&M's Janelle Cuthbertson and Christi Liles 8-2.

Colorado's Michala Jensen and Abbie Probert broke serve to take an early 3-2 lead against Sheri Olivier and Elzé Potgieter at No. 3, but the Aggie duo reeled off six consecutive games to win the match 8-3.

A&M's Stephanie Davidson and Morgan Frank beat Colorado's Ania Anuszkiewicz and Franzi Jendrian 8-4 to win the doubles point. It was the Aggies' sixth straight match in which they've captured the point.

Cuthbertson was first off the court in singles play, beating Jendrian 6-, 6-3 at No. 4. Frank then put the Aggies ahead with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Belassi at No. 2.

Aggie freshman Lauren Santacroce came from behind to defeat Anuszkiewicz 2-6, 6-4, 6-1 at No. 5, clinching the match for A&M.

After Colorado picked up two consolation points, Potgieter capped the day with a comeback win at No. 1. The junior rallied to beat Melisa Esposito 5-7, 7-5, 6-3.

The Aggies take a break from conference play with a pair of road matches, at No. 23 Michigan on Thursday and at No. 3 Notre Dame on Saturday. The match against the Wolverines begins at 2 p.m., and first serve against the Fighting Irish is slated for 9 a.m.
