Aggie women second at Big 12 Championships

STILLWATER, Okla. -- The 22nd-ranked Texas A&M women's golf team battled through high winds to open with a 315 on Friday, putting it in second place after the first round of the Big 12 Women's Golf Championship at Karsten Creek Golf Club.

The two-time defending champion Aggies trail No. 9 Oklahoma State by 12 strokes going into Saturday's second round, while Missouri is third at 317. The final round is Sunday.

Oklahoma State's Jaclyn Sweeney leads the individual standings after firing a 2-over 74. A&M freshman Sarah Zwartynski is tied for fourth after a 77.

Sophomore Danielle McVeigh carded a 78 and is tied for eighth, sophomore Ashley Freeman and junior Lauren Johnson each posted 80s and are tied for 13th, and senior Miranda Orr had an 83 and is tied for 28th.
