Texas A&M has hired Nebraska’s Terry Joseph as defensive backs coach to replace Marcel Yates.

Joseph told the Omaha-World Herald on Monday he was offered the job over the weekend.

Joseph was at Tennessee for two seasons as defensive backs coach and recruiting coordinator before being hired by Nebraska’s Bo Pelini just before spring drills in 2012. Joseph was at Louisiana Tech from 2007-09 as secondary coach and recruiting coordinator. Joseph was a defensive graduate assistant at LSU in 2006. From 1999-2005 the Northwestern State (La.) graduate was an assistant high school coach in New Orleans for Archbishop Shaw and Destrehan High School.

Yates was hired as defensive coordinator at Boise State, his alma mater. Yates coached the secondary at Boise State from 2003-11 before coming to A&M as co-defensive coordinator/secondary coach. Yates earned $308,200 last season. Joseph earned a base salary of $245,000 with the Cornhuskers last season.
