Texas A&M's football program is expected to sign its highest-ranked recruiting class of the Mike Sherman regime on Wednesday.
The Aggies have climbed to No. 9, according to rivals.com. A&M hasn't had a Top 10 class since 2005.
"Recruiting is a little bit like shaving, you better be doing it every day," said Tim Cassidy, A&M's associate athletic director for football who also oversees recruiting. "[Sherman] was one of the best recruiters we had when he was an assistant coach here. He really enjoys it."
A&M had players earn 15 first-team all-conference selections in the offensive line from 1989-96. Sherman was the team's offensive line coach from 1989-93 and 1995-96 and had a hand in recruiting most of them.
Sherman showed he hadn't lost his recruiting touch after 11 seasons in the NFL. A&M's last two recruiting classes were ranked No. 16 and No. 22.
"He's used a little NFL analogy," Cassidy said. "He treats each one of these scholarships like a draft choice. There's a pretty stringent line of command when we're gathering information and Coach Sherman is very, very involved."
Cassidy said they've been actively recruiting most of the 23-25 players they anticipate signing Wednesday for at least two years.
A&M already has four players enrolled for the spring semester -- Killeen Shoemaker quarterback Jameill Showers, Dickinson quarterback Clay Honeycutt, Arlington High quarterback Luke Joeckel and brother Matt, an offensive tackle.
