FOOTBALL

Miller makes watch list: Junior Von Miller was among the early season additions to the "watch list" for the Ted Hendricks Defensive End of the Year Award.

Miller, playing a hybrid defensive end/linebacker position called "jack" by Texas A&M coaches, had three sacks in each of his first two games to lead the nation with six. Playing linebacker last season, Miller finished with a total of 3.5 sacks.

Also added to the 40-player list were Korey Bosworth (UCLA), Carlos Dunlap (Florida), Tom Keiser (Stanford), Jake Laptad (Kansas), Josh McNary (Army), Aaron Morgan (Louisiana-Monroe), Derrick Morgan (Georgia Tech), Brooks Reed (Arizona) and Greg Romeus (Pittsburgh).

The list will be shortened to include five to six finalists in the final weeks of the season. The winner will be announced Dec. 9.

SOCCER

Hooper gets national honor: Junior forward Whitney Hooper earned the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) National Player of the Week award Wednesday.

Hooper scored two goals, including the game-winner, as the Aggies upset previously unbeaten and second-ranked Portland. Hooper also scored against Sam Houston State.

Hooper leads A&M with four goals, nine points and a .250 shooting percentage.

The Aggies will open Big 12 play at Baylor on Friday.

SOFTBALL

Aggies schedule 30 home games: Texas A&M's softball team will play 30 home games in 2010 and 26 games against teams that made last year's NCAA Tournament, the school announced Wednesday when it released its upcoming schedule.

The Aggies will host three tournaments and a stretch of 13 consecutive home games during nonconference play.

A&M's 56-game slate includes 19 opponents who qualified for the NCAA regionals last season and two that reached the College World Series.

The Aggies will open the season at the Kajikawa Classic in Tempe, Ariz., on Feb. 12.

A&M's first home game is scheduled for Feb. 19 against Mississippi State, which made the NCAA playoffs last season. That game will be part of the Aggies' first home tournament.

The Aggies will start Big 12 play by hosting Kansas on March 27. A&M's home game against rival Texas is scheduled for April 7.

The Big 12 tournament will be May 13-16 in Oklahoma City.

Currently going through fall workouts, the Aggies will play its first fall games at a tournament in Spring on Oct. 3-4.

TENNIS

Aggie men head for Baylor: The Texas A&M men's tennis team will continue fall competition at the Baylor Intercollegiate on Friday through Sunday at the Baylor Tennis Center.

A&M is among 23 teams to be represented in the singles and doubles flights including host Baylor, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Abilene Christian, Arkansas, Denver, New Mexico State, Oklahoma Christian, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Rice, TCU, Tennessee, Texas Tech, Tulsa, Louisiana-Lafayette, UNLV, Air Force, Texas, Texas-Arlington, Texas-San Antonio, Wichita State and Wisconsin.
