FOOTBALL

Matthews on Remington Watch List: NEW YORK -- Texas A&M senior Kevin Matthews has been named to the 2009 Spring Watch List for the Rimington Trophy presented annually to the best center in college football. The 10-year-old trophy is named for Dave Rimington, who earned consensus All-America honors at Nebraska in 1981 and 1982.

A former walk-on from Houston's Elkins High School, Matthews earned a starting job at center and started all 12 games for the Aggies last season. As a freshman and sophomore, Matthews backed up former Big 12 Offensive Lineman of the Year Cody Wallace, who now plays for the San Francisco 49ers.

Matthews was one of 44 players on the Watch List, which was compiled by the Rimington Trophy committee. The Big 12 Conference had five players on the Watch List including Tim Barnes of Missouri, Chris Hall of Texas, Jacob Hickman of Nebraska and J.D. Walton of Baylor.

WOMEN'S SOCCER

Aggie soccer players compete in Northern Ireland: Texas A&M women's soccer players Kristen Arnold and Bri Young were among 18 players to play for the U.S. U-23 Women's National Team (WNT) in Northern Ireland last week.

The U.S. team tied Northern Ireland 0-0 and beat an Irish women's select team 6-0 before shutting out a U-15 boys team 1-0 in Ireland.

Young also played two matches for the U-20 U.S. WNT in La Manga, Spain, in February.

SOFTBALL

Former A&M All-American to work for ESPNU this weekend: Texas A&M softball student assistant coach and two-time All-American Amanda Scarborough will serve as an ESPN analyst for the NCAA Super Regional featuring No. 2 seed UCLA and Missouri this weekend.

Scarborough will join play-by-play announce Justin Kutcher to call the action of the best-of-3 series at Easton Stadium. Game 1 at 8:30 p.m. Saturday will be broadcast on ESPNU with Game 2 at 2:30 p.m. Sunday and Game 3 to follow, if necessary.

"I'm really excited for this great opportunity," Scarborough said. "It's something that I've really wanted to do for a long time, and without Texas A&M and Aggie softball, this experience wouldn't have been possible."

Jesus Christ miller58. Have you lost your mind??!!!?? Since when was Texas A&M basketball on the same level as Kentucky basketball!!!! Get real. There are only three other schools out there who can realistically recruit like Kentucky: UCLA, Kansas, and UNC. That's it. You are an absolute lunatic to suggest A&M should sign the same number of future NBA all-stars as a school like Kentucky. What is you major malfunction???!!!!!!

Comment Title: JUST WATCHING A GOOD COACH LIKE JOHN CALAPERI, ON A NEW JOB ?
My personal opinions:_____A good example of why A&M sucks so badly._____John Calaperi understands on his new job, that to win at basketball, you have to sign 3 to 5 four and five star difference makers every year, to win!_____A&M's Chancellor and Regents don't seem to get that up to 90% of your games are won when a coach signs his high school recruits; and A&M must first and foremost, hire a basketball coach that has a history of signing 3 to 5 four and five star difference makers every year, starting his first full year to win?_____Our Chancellor and Regents also don't seem to get that first and foremost, a football coach hired, must have a history of signing 10 to 22 four and five star difference makers every year, starting his first full year, to win?_____ANY THING ELSE, DOOMS THAT COACH TO FAILURE IN THE BIG 12!____But to John, he just moved and already has 5 top commits; He will win!!!_____Commits are: #1 ranked 5* G John Wall 6-4 184; #2 5* F DeMarcus Cousins 6-9 250; #22 5* C Danial Orton 6-10 260; #23 5* G Eric Budsoe 6-1 185; and #40 4* G Jon Hood 6-6 185._____Mark turgeon has only 1 four star commit for '09 and only 1 for '10, where we must have 3 to 5 each year, and it ain't even his first year on the job; and you wonder why we suck so badly?_____And Mike Sherman has only 3 four star commits in the current class (His 3rd, not his irst), while tu already has 17 difference makers committed; and you wonder why we suck so badly in last place in football!_____And We will continue to be in last place as long as our A&M head coach is not a recruiter!_____miller58

Comment Title: Miller, you may have a point
As I read the rivals evaluation again I think I may have misinterpreted some information. Maybe we are not as well off as I thought. I will check closer in the future.

Comment Title: RE; hobo - AGGIE SPIN MACHINE USING FALSE SPIN OUT OF CONTEXT RE RIVALS?
My personal opinions:_____Hobo, you spun what rivals is saying about A&M recruiting falsely, by going completely out of context!_____Let's look at the truth of what rivals is saying about A&M recruiting in context?_____First rivals says that A&M has committed in Sherman's third class, only 3 four star difference makers.____Then it says tu has committd almost 6 times as many difference makers at 17?____Then it says ou has committed almost twice as many difference makers at 5?_____Also it says nebraska has committed 3 difference makers out of 4 total commits, and is almost sure to commit multiples of what A&M has now?_____Second, rivals points out that tu has signed in the last four classes and committed in the fifth class, a total of 71 difference makers?_____That ou has 55._____That nebraska has 27 total._____that Arkansas has 25 total._____That okie lite has 23 total._____ And that A&M over that period of time under Sherman has dropped from 33 to 23 total._____It points out how A&M has dropped under Sherman from 3rd, to today tied for 5th and 6th place amomg the teams listed?_____It also discretly points out that Sherman, with multiple offers out for his 4th and 5th signing classes, still can't carry the jock of any of the coaches of these other teams?_____Hobo, truthful context, all available at rivals.com for your review?_____miller58

Comment Title:
If we are doing so well in recruiting and have this super star pro staff then will do you think we will contend for the big12 title hobo.

Comment Title: Selective Listening
HOBO, what is being said is "A&M is doing very well in recruiting"..............in spite of the coaching and results they only fell six spots in the recruiting ranking from the year before which is remarkable.

Comment Title: Miller, your thoughts are not shared by experts
Miller, rivals (who you hold to the highest of standards) mentions who well we are recruiting. I guess not everyone shares your view that the sky is falling. http://collegefootball.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=948373

Comment Title: BUILDING WHAT MAY BE THE BAREST CUPBOARD EVER, SHERMAN LOSES 10TH OFFER TO baylor?
My personal opinions:_____Mike Sherman, after an April-May that saw him lose offers to 3 ou commits, 1 each to tech, okie lite, nebraska, michigan, 'bama and lsu, just scored his 10 recent offer lose to baylor!_____Four star safety Ahmad Dixon 6-1 194 4.5 decommitted tu, and turned down offers from A&M, tech, ou, tcu, nebraska, florida, and 'bama among others, to commit to the bears!_____With multiple offers out for his next year's fourth A&M signing class, and the third class about full, Sherman still has not committed a single player to the defensive side of the ball with 4 star speed, athleticism, and size!_____With a majority of these commits going to other Big 12 South teams, they will be blowing us out for he next five years?_____miller58
