Sherman to appear on TV show: Texas A&M head football coach Mike Sherman will be the guest on the television show Veterans of the Valley, which airs on KAMU (Suddenlink cable Ch. 4 or HD Ch. 700) at 6:30 p.m. Saturday and again at 5:30 p.m. Sunday.
Sherman will discuss his six-day May visit to Iraq with host Tom Turbiville.
GOLF
Zwartynski wins state's amateur title: AUSTIN --Sarah Zwartynski, who will be a senior on the Texas A&M golf team next season, won the Women's Texas State Amateur Championship on Friday.
Zwartynski defeated San Antonio's Erica Pressley 4 and 2 in the match play final at the University of Texas Golf Club. In the previous four rounds, Zwartynski defeated Karisma Smith (2-up), current A&M teammate Aly Smith (3 and 1), Hannah Arnold (5 and 4) and Carolyn Creekmore (3 and 2).

Peck finishes third: EUGENE, Ore. -- Texas A&M's Cameron Peck shot 4-under-par 67 on Friday en route to a third-place finish at the 72-hole Pacific Coast Amateur Championship.
Peck, who will be a junior this fall, shot 71-71-73-67--282 to finish five strokes behind winner Andrew Putnam. Peck's 67 was the second best round in the tournament.
Peck will try to qualify for the U.S. Amateur Championship next week, as will A&M sophomore Case Cochran. A&M senior Conrad Shindler shot 67-68--135 to win his qualifier at Riverhill Country Club in Kerrville earlier this week, while former All-American Andrea Pavan qualified after shooting 69-69--138 at The Woodlands Country Club.
SOCCER
Tar Heel transfers to A&M: North Carolina forward Merritt Mathias has transferred to Texas A&M.
Mathias played in 39 matches for the Tar Heels in two national championship seasons, scoring three goals with an assist. She will be eligible to play for A&M this fall.
Mathias was a Parade All-American at Oak Mountain High School in Birmingham, Ala., in 2008.
A&M will play North Carolina in the regular-season opener at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 20 at the Aggie Soccer Stadium.
TRACK & FIELD
Aggie sprinters earn medals: MAYAGUEZ, Puerto Rico -- A pair of Aggie sprinters earned medals in the 4x400-meter relay Friday during the final day of track and field competition at the Central American and Caribbean Games.
A&M graduate Clora Williams anchored the Jamaican women's 4x400 relay to victory, while current Aggie Demetrius Pinder crossed the finish line second for the Bahamas.
