The NCAA and the Southeastern Conference have given their OK for Texas A&M to again play host to the 7-on-7 state football tournament this summer.
A&M has held the event since it originated in 1998, but the SEC doesn't allow its members to host 7-on-7 football events, and the NCAA also is considering barring those events from college campuses.
But A&M athletics director Bill Byrne said in his Wednesday Weekly that the SEC had granted A&M a one-time waiver for this summer and that he was holding out hope the NCAA would, too.
The NCAA on Thursday did grant A&M a waiver, according to Gigem247.com.
Frisco, San Antonio and Round Rock had been mentioned as possible sites for the 7-on-7 state football tournament if A&M wasn't able to host it.
