Aggie western riders win national championship

WACO -- The western half of the Texas A&M equestrian team beat defending national champion Texas Christian 7-1 to win the 2009 Varsity Equestrian National Championship in western riding on Saturday at the Heart O' Texas Fair Complex.
The Aggies won the western title for the second time in three years. A&M joins Oklahoma State as the only three-time western champions in the eight-year history of the VENC.
A&M's Caroline Gunn successfully defended her individual national championship in horsemanship by beating TCU's Courtney Chown 154.5-151 in the title match.
