Aggies close with victory: The third-ranked Texas A&M equestrian team closed out the regular season by dominating New Mexico State 18-2 on Senior Day on Saturday at the Brazos County Expo Complex.
A&M (10-4) clinched its third 10-win season in four years. A&M sophomore Maggie Earle took both the fences and flat MVPs, while senior Maggie Gratny earned her fifth reining MVP this season.
A&M will compete in the Big 12 Championships starting March 26 in Waco.
GOLF
Aggie men in third at Collegiate Masters: LAS VEGAS -- The No. 7 Texas A&M men's golf team is in third place after shooting a 307 on Saturday at the Southern Highlands Collegiate Masters at Southern Highlands Golf Club.
A&M is 26 over through 36 holes and trails leader UNLV by nine strokes entering Sunday's final round. With winds reaching 30 miles per hour, the No. 14 Rebels were the only team in the field to break 300 in the second round with a 297. No. 12 UCLA is in second at 24 over.
A&M senior Andrea Pavan (70-79--149) is tied for 10th individually, sophomore Jordan Russell (74-76--150) and junior Nacho Elvira (77-73--150) are tied for 13th, freshman Cameron Peck (74-80--154) is tied for 28th and sophomore Geoff Shaw (81-79--160) is tied for 57th. Junior John Hurley, competing as an individual, is tied for 71st (80-83--163).
Arizona State's Jesper Kennegard (71-72--143) and Southern California's T.J. Vogel (71-72--143) share the individual lead.
SOFTBALL
Aggies take pair of games: The No. 24 Texas A&M softball team beat North Dakota State 4-0 and Utah State 8-0 in five innings Saturday at the Aggie Invitational at the Aggie Softball Complex.
Against North Dakota State, Rebecca Arbino (10-3) earned the shut out, allowing four hits and striking out four over seven innings. A&M first baseman Rhiannon Kliesing was 2 for 4 with a home run and two RBIs, and catcher Meagan May hit her ninth home run of the season.
Against Utah State, Melissa Dumezich (5-0) pitched five innings, allowing two hits and three walks while striking out four. Kliesing was 2 for 2 with two doubles, three RBIs and two runs scored while teammate Alex Reynolds went 2 for 3 with a double and two RBIs.
A&M will finish the Aggie Invitational against North Dakota State at 12:15 p.m. Sunday.
SWIMMING & DIVING
Another Aggie diver qualifies for NCAAs: Texas A&M's Janie Potvin finished fifth in the women's 3-meter springboard finals Saturday at the Zone D Regional meet to earn an NCAA Championships bid.
Potvin is the third Aggie at the meet to qualify for the Championships. On Friday, Grant Nel qualified in the men's 1-meter springboard while Jaele Patrick earned hers in the women's 1-meter competition.
