Pavan tied for second at Western Amateur: LAKE FOREST, Ill. -- Texas A&M's Andrea Pavan shot a 3-under 68 on Wednesday and is tied for second after two rounds of the 107th Western Amateur Championship at Conway Farms Golf Club.

Pavan's five-under total of 69-68--137 trails Oklahoma State's Kevin Tway (67-69--136) by one stroke going into Thursday's third and fourth rounds. Pavan will be a senior at A&M in the fall.

The field was cut to the top 44 and ties after the second round. The top 16 players after Thursday's 36 holes will advance to match play. The opening round and quarterfinals are Friday, with the semifinals and championship match Saturday.

A&M's Bronson Burgoon (71-73--144) and incoming freshman Cameron Peck (73-71--144) are tied for 16th. A&M juniors John Hurley (75-76--151) and Conrad Shindler (82-80--162) missed the cut.

Smith takes title in Maryland: Texas A&M senior-to-be Lindsay Smith won the Maryland Adult Hunt Seat Medal Finals held at the Bay State Classic in Owings Mills on Friday.

Smith, from West Friendship, Md., beat a field of 22 riders from Maryland, Pennsylvania and Virginia. Smith took part in a three-test competition made up of fences, flat and a jumping test with each round judged based on equitation.
