EQUESTRIAN
Aggies ranked fourth in coaches' poll: The Texas A&M equestrian team slid from second to fourth in the latest Women's Intercollegiate Equestrian National Coaches Poll released Tuesday.
The Aggies lost 13-7 at South Carolina and 13-10 to Baylor at home over the last two weeks. Baylor swapped spots with A&M, jumping from fourth to second, while South Carolina improved one spot to sixth.
The Aggies will host Kansas State on Feb. 20 at the Brazos County Expo Complex.
GOLF
Aggie women remain in 15th at Regional Challenge: PALOS VERDES, Calif. -- The No. 25 Texas A&M women's golf team shot 323 on Tuesday and remains in 15th place after two rounds of the Northrup Grumman Regional Challenge at Palos Verdes Golf Club. The final round is Wednesday.
No. 2 Arizona State extended its lead to 13 strokes with a 599 total. No. 3 Southern California is in second (612) followed by top-ranked UCLA (619).
Arizona State's Juliana Murcia is the individual leader by six strokes with a 1-under 141.
A&M sophomore Sarah Zwartynski is tied for 14th at 78-77-155. Sophomore Stephanie Smith (88-77-165) is tied for 59th, senior Lauren Johnson (83-84-167) is tied for 66th, junior Ashley Freeman (83-85-168) is tied for 72nd and freshman Kaitlin Hovda (87-85-172) is tied for 78th (87).
SOFTBALL
No. 5 Aggies travel to Sam Houston State: The fifth-ranked Texas A&M softball team will play its first road game of the season at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at Sam Houston State in Huntsville. The game time was changed Tuesday.
The Aggies opened the season by hitting seven homers and going 3-1 in the Aggie Classic over the weekend.
SWIMMING & DIVING
Atkinson named National Swimmer of the Week: Texas A&M junior Alia Atkinson has been named the Counsilman Hunsaker National Collegiate Swimmer of the Week, CollegeSwimming.com announced on Tuesday.
Atkinson won both breaststroke races against No. 6 Auburn and Florida State in Tallahassee, Fla., on Saturday. The two-time Jamaican Olympian earned NCAA consideration times by winning the 100-yard breaststroke in 1 minute, 1.70 seconds and the 200 breaststoke in 2:13.76.
Atkinson, the two-time reigning Big 12 champion in both events, has yet to lose a breaststroke race this season.
TENNIS
Aggie women crack Top 25: The Texas A&M women's tennis team broke into the Top 25 at No. 25 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's Top 75 rankings.
The Aggies are 3-2 with victories over then-No. 28 Denver, No. 60 Saint Mary's (Calif.) and No. 25 Auburn.
No. 4 Baylor is the only other Big 12 team in the Top 25. Texas is No. 28 followed by No. 47 Colorado, No. 71 Oklahoma State and No. 75 Kansas.
TRACK & FIELD
Sharif earns Big 12 weekly honor: Texas A&M junior Zuheir Sharif claimed the men's Big 12 athlete of the week award after winning the triple jump at the New Balance Armory Collegiate Invitational in New York City last weekend.
Sharif's mark of 53 feet, 11 inches leads the nation for the indoor season.
The Aggies will host the Texas A&M Invitational starting Friday at the Gilliam Indoor Track Stadium.
