BASKETBALL

Big 12 honors Graham: Texas A&M senior guard Bryson Graham has been selected for the Big 12 Winter Chick-fil-A Community of Champions.

The three-year letterman was among 12 student-athletes honored -- one from each Big 12 school in any sport. It was based on academic standing (minimum 3.0 grade point average), community service, leadership and sportsmanship. Each school will be awarded $3,000 from Chick-fil-A.

Graham, who has played only 2 minutes this season, was the only basketball player selected.

EQUESTRIAN

Baylor at A&M on Saturday: The second-ranked Texas A&M equestrian team will try to even its season series with fourth-ranked Baylor at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Brazos County Expo Complex.

Baylor (8-2) ended the fall schedule with an 8-2 victory over the Aggies (5-2).

Saturday's competition also will feature multiple fundraisers for the Still Creek Boys & Girls Ranch. The Ranch, located close to Kurten, has been a children's home since 1998. The Ranch will hold a silent auction and barbecue cookout. Last year's Still Creek event raised more than $9,000.

There is no admission to Saturday's competition. There also will be a coloring station, hayrides, and youth can have their picture taken with a pony. The Street Rodders, a group of local classic car enthusiasts, will display their automobiles.

SWIMMING

A&M at No. 1 UT: The Texas A&M men's swimming team will face top-ranked Texas in the State Farm Lone Star Showdown at 6 p.m. Friday at the Jamail Texas Swimming Center.

TENNIS

A&M women to host Auburn: The Texas A&M women's tennis teams will play host to 25th-ranked Auburn at 6 p.m. Friday at the Mitchell Tennis Center.

A&M (2-1) is just a couple spots outside the Top 25. Its lone loss was to No. 10 Southern Cal.

Auburn (1-2) has lost to No. 8 Georgia Tech and No. 11 Clemson.

"I do not know much about [Auburn] other than that they are a very good team," A&M head coach Bobby Kleinecke said. "They had a great team last year and pretty much have everybody back. They ought to be very experienced, and it is going to be a battle."

*

Aggies, Longhorns to play for Texas Cup: The 15th-ranked Texas A&M men's tennis team will battle second-ranked Texas for the Texas Cup in a nonconference dual match at 6 p.m. Friday at The Downtown Club at the Met in Houston.

UT is 4-0 and headed to next week's ITA National Team Indoor Championships in Chicago. A&M (2-1) lost to seventh-ranked Florida in the second round of the ITA Kick-Off Weekend.

"Texas is obviously a good team," A&M head coach Steve Denton said. "Anytime Texas and Texas A&M play each other in any sport, it is a big deal. It is especially big when we are playing against a team that is so highly-ranked and-regarded like Texas. It is a great opportunity for us."

Legendary A&M head coach David Kent and former Texas head coach Dave Snyder, both Hall of Famers, will be honored before the match but will not be able to attend the event.

Admission is $10 for adults and $3 for students with proceeds benefiting Special Olympics Texas.
