Approximately 15 people in the A&M athletic department will take early retirement or were laid off, an apparent move to help balance the budget, according to sources.

The people were informed this morning and will meet with human resources this afternoon.

Apparently no coaching staff members were involved, just support personnel.

We will update this story as it develops.

Comment Title: RE: Ag of 32 years
My personal opinions:_____Ag of 32 years, given the choice of spending the funds on the Sherman 10 or the university, I'm with you and would put the funds on the university side every time!_____miller58

Comment Title: Ag of 32 yrs
I came here under Emory Bellard, so I've seen over 30 years of A&M football history. What they are missing is the opportunity of getting rid of the entire athletic department and make this a university, not a farm club for the pros. Student athletes are a joke. most don't graduate, and most are idiotic majors like PE, sports communications, etc. Stop wasting our money on a bunch of idiot jocks and put the funds into the education side of the university where it belongs.

Comment Title: threaten to resign?
Come on.....post your informer, ----- threatening to resign is like an 8 year old telling another kid of 8, I don't want to be your friend anymore, unless......... at this level to threaten to leave....either one leaves or one stays --- but threaten, nah!

My personal opinions:_____Stars, that is an absolute sucker bet you propose, and I doubt even any Aggie Spin Machiners are unknowledgable enough to bite?_____I know we have an impossibly easy schedule of really bad teams:_____Utah State ranked #116?_____New Mexico ranked #106?_____UAB ranked #95?_____Iowa State ranked # 91?_____Kansas State ranked #74, Baylor ranked #66, etc._____But we are an impossibly bad team ranked highat #84, with bottom tier coaching and 3 recruiting classes, the worst I can ever remember?_____I hope you find a lot of suckers though!_____This forum may be just the place to look for them?_____miller58

Comment Title: A&M is NOT significant.
A&M doesn't have any football history. They have a horrible head coach and horrible academics. You all land 5 stars like C Mike by default b/c TU didn't offer. Ugly campus, horroble coaches, terrible administration-A unique American Instution. Schools like UT, UVA, UNC, UMich, and others are far superior academic and athletic schools and can raise thier academic standards via the sucess of their sports teams. A&M couldn't hold any of their jocks. Visit the Big House in Ann Arbor then go and visit Kyle field, theres no comparison when it comes to aesthtics school respect and prestige. A&M is 40 yrs behind.

Let me throw something out. If you want to make this season more interesting what do you say to a small wager. Something along the lines of $500.00 to your favorite charity with an ad in the eagle confirming the contribution was made IF THE AGGIES WIN 5 GAMES OR LESS/SIX GAMES OR MORE. Maybe we recruit Cessna to hold folks honest by divulging, with authorization from the individual at the beginning of the season, an email address and name if one side or the other does not live up to its side of the bargain. Maybe a better way but you get the idea. Think you could draw any interest?

Comment Title: WHERE DID THE MONEY GO? AND DID A HUGE MISTAKE BLOW THE MONEY?
My personal opinions:_____When a winning coach Fran was fired for what seemingly proved to be a trumped up and invalid reason, did up to $9 million on his contract thru '12 immediately became due?_____What is the nane of the person who pushed this vendetta to fire a wining coach, who had the program on the rise?_____Then we duplicated this spending at $1.8 million starting with the hire of Sherman, who has yet to lift Fran's jock even in recruiting up to 20 difference makers, or 7 and 9 win seasons?_____Wouldn't we have up to $5.4 million in the bank from Fran's '10, '11, and '12 salary if paid off at $1.8 milliom per year?_____Then with Sherman's since hired in'07, $1.8 million per being a exact unneeded duplication of Fran's salary, that's another ~ $3.5 million dollars fron '07 thru today, in the bank today?____Isn't that up to $5.4 million from Fran plus another $3.5 million From the Sherman duplication, or up to $8.9 million, we'd have in the bank today._____ My question is simple?_____Who was the power pushing for the hiring of a thus far losing coach, the "raw deal" firing of a winning coach; and spending this up to an extra $8.9 million dollars?_____Do you think this person should be named; and his head roll for this kind of up to $8.9 million dollar mistake?_____miller58

You want another job, go to the classifieds. This is the sports section. Besides, this whole thing smacks of pablo anyway.

My personal opinions:_____Warning! young Ags and former football players, these facts are not even the least bit embelished!_____As I remember, fact is A&M has lost more than 4 out of every 10 games against big 12 opponents, since we began big 12 play!_____Fact is in the 6 years prior to the big 12 in the swc, we were only ranked in the final top 20 teams, only once!____Fact is during this whole time, A&M never once won or even played in an mnc game!_____Fact is tu and ou regularlily compete for the mnc and the big 12!_____Fact is tu and ou regularlily clean house, when they dont win!_____Fact is A&M should clean house of anybody directly associated with the last 20 years and compete like tu and ou does, for he big 12 and mnc every year!_____Fact is we should clean house today!_____Any other honest unembelished facts added by others will be appreciated!_____ miller58

once again ..... people should only comment when they know the facts... but apparently some still do anyway!!

Maybe you have your answer as to what contributed to you being one of the 13. JUDGEMENT. First signing on with a group of cut throat good old boys believing they would not sell you down the river when they just sent an entire program back to the stone age and second signing on to a BLOG and attempting to chastise people for posting opinion instead of fact. You worked for an organization good at distorting fact and on top of it all we would think you had more pressing matters at present.

You are so sure of yourself about others not having facts and you do. They are sure enough to put their name on their statements. How about you? Maybe not so sure after all. Tell us what the facts are.

Comment Title: facts
people should only comment on things when they know all the facts. It's apparent that most here do not.... including the author of the article. its unfortunate this has happened but I'm sure that these cut were necessary. If a coach's salary is cut then what's to stop them from going elsewhere that still has competitive pay???

Comment Title: Postal?
$Bill would fit in perfectly at the Post Office. "Hey we're having trouble competing with other forms of communication and less people are using our service than ever. Hey I know, let's raise the price of stamps, that will certainly help!" If the A&M thing doesn't work out for you, I'm sure there's a spot for you in the Obama administration.

Comment Title: Time for change
We can't blame the economy for this. Here's an idea; how about winning for a change? Bowl games, television, hosting tournaments, and unfortunately t-shirt fans all bring money to the athletic department. All of those things requiring winning. We haven't done much of that, when its counted.

Comment Title:
Maybe it will take the economy to break us from the past. Looking forward to a new and better future.

Comment Title: ______THERE ARE 8 COACHES RUNNING THE A&M FOOTBALL PROGRAM WHO HAVN'T DONE SQUAT!
My personal opinions:____Why not lay off, or better yet, fire the most incompetent employee in the A&M System that make $5000/day?____With all of the 'Friends of RC in the athletic departments being layed off, why not start with the 7 coaches who have not committed 1 5* difference maker to the 2010 fish class?____miller58 ________"One day we will hire our Urban Meyer, Nick Saban, or Mack Brown, but right now we'll settle for less, a lot less with a "Sherman."

Comment Title: Poll Question
Since nobody else has posted any serious comments and the article above is kind of lacking, I thought I'd comment on the Poll Question over to the right. It kind of reminds me of the Stephen Colbert interviews where he asks Democrats if George W. Bush was a great President or the Greatest President ever. How about adding a category for the year fell short of expectations (Luckily Golf and Track saved our hides.)
