It’s never too early to be looking ahead.

Kansas officially released its 2010 football schedule Wednesday. The Jayhawks play host to the Aggies on Oct. 23 in ’10.  That’s a long way off, but the Aggies need to be on the upswing by then.

We all know this fall is the tough schedule — at Colorado, at Kansas State at Texas Tech and at Oklahoma.

But it does get easier in 2010. The Big 12 road games are Oklahoma State, Kansas, Baylor and Texas. Three of those schools, barring injuries, will have new starting quarterbacks. You expect Texas to reload, even if Colt McCoy would win the Heisman this year. But Kansas and OSU will have a tough time finding quarterbacks to continue what Todd Reesing and Zac Robinson, respectively, have meant to those programs.

A&M opens 2010 league play on Oct. 2 at Oklahoma State. You talk about a potential pivotal game. A&M then has an open week before playing Missouri at home. Then A&M goes to Kansas, which has to play rival Kansas State before welcoming the Aggies.

It will be interesting this year and next year to see if KU is developing into a program to contend on a yearly basis or if its recent success was jump-started by taking advantage of a weakened North Division and scheduling cream puffs in non-conference.

KU, however, might be playing maybe its toughest non-conference schedule of the decade in 2010. North Dakota State and New Mexico State shouldn’t pose problems, but the Jayhawks also play Georgia Tech and Southern Miss.

KU, though, probably considers the South teams it will face in 2010 — Baylor, Oklahoma State and A&M — the easier draw. KU swept those teams in 2007 en route to that landmark 12-1 record.

Kansas, though, was only 6-6 in 2006, going 0-3 against BU, OSU and A&M. Last year the Jayhawks were 8-5, but KU was outscored 143-59 in losses to Oklahoma, Texas and Texas Tech, the South's Big 3.

There’s plenty to be said for who you play.

A&M rallied for a critical 21-18 victory the last time it went to Lawrence. That came on the heels of a 31-27 loss to Texas Tech at Kyle Field. Those were critical wins in A&M’s 9-4 season that in retrospect also was helped by a favorable schedule.

All teams eventually have a favorable schedule, the good teams, though, are the ones who take advantage.

When the current track coach arrived he faced a bare cupboard. Then he began to recruit. Recruits had faith because of his accomplishments at the ncaa level proving once again you do not have to already have a winning program to recruit the best. There was no meddling in the selection because it was a second tier sport with no following to speak of and nobody really cared. You could see from year one how he was recruiting the best available athletes to work with. Good (if not great) coach, good recruits, no switching sprint athletes to distance athletes every year, no switching field athletes around to other events, no meddling by the good ol boys, milestones established and attained each year, and NO POLITICS. Nobody on the bandwagon til very late when a ncaa championship became a real possibility. Now, just like golf, EVERYBODY wants their picture with the trophy. The football program needs the same opportunity.

Comment Title: THE HELL HOLE OF DISRESPECT THAT WILL BE A&M FOOTBALL IN 2010?
My personal opinions:_____Expect in 2010, A&M to be last place, with poor coaching and worse recruiting, with national press laughing at us, with A&M just a football hell hole, etc.?_____If McKinney's, Rc's, and a few former football players with misguided loyalty, that participated in RC's creer Big 12 record of losing 4 out of almost every 10 games to Big 12 teams, get their way, Mike Sherman will sadly still be coach?_____A majority of Aggies that put A&M ahead of a personal political agenda, want our respect back and a new coach today!_____Under a 2010 Sherman expect:_____More losses than wins;_____A talent pool falling behind tu, ou, nebraska, arkansas, and okie lite; Last place in the Big 12:_____ A bare cupboard created by Sherman of over 45 difference maker players, short?_____Sherman has signed and committed over 71 mostly slow low ranked players in his first three signing classes, has Multiple offers out for his fourth and fith signing classes, and will have an almost bare cupboard of 85 signed and committed players in 2010_____That's five future seasons of blow out losses, if changes aren't made today_____The next head coach must be able to coach, recruit, and win the Big 12 and mnc; not simply have as his top reason for being at A&M, that McKinney, RC and a few former football players are his friends! The next coach must be for a winner for the majority of Aggies!_____miller58

Comment Title: ARE YOU RAEDY FOR SOME FOOTBALL.....
well you better be, and real quick. Last years Defensive Two Deep Roster (22 players) will lose more than 15 at the end of this year IF nothing else happens. What will next year's two deep look like? Another scheme change in the making?

Comment Title: A&M WON"T HAVE CORNERBACK JOHN JAY 5-10 175 4.4 FOR 2010?
My personal opinions:_____Mike Sherman lost his 13th offer in recent weeks when Corner John Jay committed to TCU?_____As yet, A&M has not committed a single defensive player in the current class, with four star speed, athleticism and size?_____miller58

Comment Title: Next Year
A&M vs. New Mexico 2009 is the ONLY game Aggies should be thinking about right now. I'm telling you that anything but an Aggie blowout win over New Mexico will mean none of us will give a flip about @Kansas in 2010!
