Adams named Big 12 Newcomer of Year: Texas A&M junior Danielle Adams was named Big 12 Newcomer of the Year as the women's basketball preseason awards list was announced by the league office Wednesday.
Adams, a 6-foot-1 post, was named National Junior College Player of the Year by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association after averaging 22.1 points and 2.8 blocks per game for Jefferson College in Missouri last season.
A&M senior Tanisha Smith was named All-Big 12 honorable mention after averaging 10.6 points and 3.6 rebounds last season. Smith was last year's Big 12 Newcomer of the Year.
SOFTBALL
Aggies take two from Blinn: Texas A&M freshman Meagan May launched two home runs and had five RBIs to lead the Aggie softball team to a pair of wins against Blinn on Tuesday evening at the Aggie Softball Complex.
Nearly 200 fans showed up to witness May's three-run homer in the first inning and solo shot in the third that helped push Texas A&M to a 9-0 victory in the first game. The Aggies won game two 2-1. Head coach Jo Evans said she liked what she saw in the doubleheader.
In game two, freshman Mel Dumezich notched the game-winning RBI single in the bottom of the seventh.
Dumezich picked up the win in the circle for game one giving up just two hits and striking out five while walking four. Sophomore Rebecca Arbino fanned eight, allowed five hits and walked one for the win in the game two.
The Aggies play their next fall game against McClennan on Tuesday at the Aggie Softball Complex. Admission is free to the public.
TENNIS
A&M's Dadamo reaches main draw at All-American: TULSA, Okla. -- Texas A&M junior Jeff Dadamo qualified for the singles main draw at the 2009 D'Novo/ITA Men's All-American Championships on Wednesday at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
Dadamo beat Ohio State's Shuhei Uzawa 6-3, 6-4 to advance. A&M junior Austin Krajicek also is in the main singles tournament, which begins Thursday.
Dadamo and senior Marcus Lunt lost to California's Jonathan Dahan and Pero Zerbini 8-6 in the qualifying round of 16.
Krajicek and junior Alexey Grigorov will begin play in the main doubles draw Thursday.

Aggie women eliminated at All-American: PACIFIC PALICADES, Calif. -- Texas A&M's Morgan Frank and Elze Potgieter were knocked out of the Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championships on Wednesday at Riviera Country Club. Frank and Potgieter lost 8-5 to Clemson's Josipa Bek and Ina Hadziselimovic in the qualifying round of 16.
Potgieter also lost to Sacramento State's Karina Zheltova 7-5, 5-7, 6-2 in the secound round of qualifying singles.
