VOLLEYBALL
A&M swept on the road: COLUMBIA, Missouri -- The Texas A&M volleyball team dropped to 6-10 in Big 12 play Saturday after losing to Missouri, which claimed its sixth consecutive victory with a 25-17, 25-23, 25-14 triumph at Hearnes Center.
Missouri, which outhit A&M .304 to .168 (49 kills to 34), improves to 19-8 and 11-6 in conference matches and climbs into fourth place in the league. A&M falls to 12-14 overall.
Kelsey Black led the Aggies with nine kills, and Lindsey Miller led the team with seven blocks as A&M outblocked the Tigers, 9-5. Libero Tori Mellinger had a team-high 16 digs to give her 409 for the season, the ninth most digs in a season in school history.
A&M concludes its road trip Wednesday against Kansas State in Manhattan, Kan., at 7 p.m..
BASKETBALL
Aggie women finish scrimmage in tie: Senior Danielle Adams scored 22 points to lead all scorers in the Texas A&M women's basketball team's Maroon & White Game, which ended in a 97-97 tie Saturday at Reed Arena.
Junior Sydney Carter had 18 points, five assists and four steals for the Maroon, while junior Kelsey Assarian had 13 rebounds.
Junior Skylar Collins had 14 points for the White, while Kelsey Bone had 13 points and seven rebounds.
The Aggies played five 10-minute periods, with two against their men's practice squad.
No. 8 A&M will open the regular season against Arkansas-Little Rock at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Reed Arena.
CROSS COUNTRY
A&M's Upshaw qualifies for national meet: WACO -- Texas A&M Tara Upshaw earned a berth to the NCAA Cross Country Championships by placing 10th at the South Central Regional on Saturday at Cottonwood Creek Golf Course.
The A&M women and men each placed fifth as a team. Texas won the women's race followed by Rice, Arkansas and Baylor. Arkansas won the men's race followed by Texas, Lamar and Baylor. The top two teams in each race earned automatic NCAA berths.
Upshaw pushed A&M's streak of sending at least one runner to the national meet to six straight years. She finished the 6,000-meter course Saturday in 20 minutes, 57.2 seconds.
Also for A&M's women, Natosha Rogers placed 11th in 21:03.9. Katherine Devlin placed 28th in 21:24.9 followed by Amanda Jenkins (39th, 21:39.6), Colbea Harris (56th, 22:04.2), Kasey McNorton (57th, 22:05.5) and Itzel Cetina (71st, 22:22.4).
Kevin Burnett led A&M's men, placing 15th on the 10,000-meter course in 30:50.5. Jimmy Welin placed 30th in 31:17.5 followed by MacLean O'Donnel (35th, 31:25.9), Stephen Curry (47th, 31:41.2), Will Barry (52nd, 31:52.4), Nathan Parker (59th, 32:04.6) and Ryan Miller (80th, 32:52.1).
The NCAA meet is set for Nov. 22 in Terre Haute, Ind.
SWIMMING & DIVING
Aggie men earn pair of victories: FORT PIERCE, Fla. -- Texas A&M beat Nova Southeastern 173-90 and Indian River State 167-100 in a men's swimming and diving tri-meet Saturday.
A&M won 11 of 15 events with two double-winners. Senior Balazs Makany won the 50-yard freestyle and 200 backstroke, while junior Grant Nel swept the 1- and 3-meter springboard diving events.
A&M's swimmers will compete in the Houston Invitational on Nov. 20, while the divers will compete at the Georgia Tech Invitational on Nov. 19-21.
