BASKETBALL
DeSoto big man verbally commits to A&M: DeSoto's Keith Davis, a 6-foot-9 senior power forward/center, verbally committed to Texas A&M on Monday, according to ESPN.com.
"Davis is a testament of how quickly a young, athletic big man can progress in a short period of time," ESPN.com recruiting coordinator Mike LaPlante said. "He has transformed from a skinny, unsure junior with upside into an imposing rebounder and shot-blocker that can dominate the paint."
Davis chose A&M over Texas, Oklahoma State, Florida, Cincinnati and Arkansas.
"He runs the floor effortlessly and is a human pogo stick on the offensive glass," LaPlante said. "His shot-blocking ability will make an immediate impact for the Aggies and he's also developing a solid low post offensive game. Under the radar nationally, he is a great kid with an outstanding work ethic that may be one of the bigger steals in this year's class."
Davis is the third big man from the class of 2010 to verbally commit to the Aggies. Earlier in the year, Dripping Springs forward Daniel Alexander and Houston Bellaire's Tobi Oyedeji pledged. Both are 6-foot-8.
SOCCER
Peterson a finalist for Lowe's Senior CLASS Award: Texas A&M senior Emily Peterson was selected as one of 10 finalists for the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award on Monday.
Peterson was chosen by a national media committee from a list of 30 women's soccer candidates announced in April. She is the only finalist selected from a Big 12 team.
Voting began Monday and ends Nov. 13. Fan balloting is available at www.seniorCLASSaward.com, as well as through text messaging (text W9 to 74567 to vote for Peterson). Fan votes will be combined with votes from coaches and media to determine the winner, which will be announced during the Women's College Cup in December.
CLASS is an acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School. The award honors the attributes of senior student-athletes in four areas: classroom, community, character and competition.
