Eagle Staff Report

The Brazos Valley Bombers have added one of the top players in the country by signing Texas A&M infielder Brodie Greene for the upcoming wood-bat Texas Collegiate League season.

Greene, a junior, is batting a team-leading .352 (at least 125 at-bats) for the 22nd-ranked Aggies with 11 doubles, 11 home runs and 10 stolen bases. He batted .375 in Big 12 play, which was seventh best among players with at least 65 at-bats.

The Bombers also signed two more Aggies on Monday -- Brett Parsons and Aaron Daab.

First baseman/outfielder Parsons, a junior transfer from Navarro College, is hitting just .204 this season in 54 at-bats. He's appeared in 29 games, starting 12.

Daab, a left-handed pitcher, has yet to throw a pitch at A&M. He redshirted in 2008 and is taking a medical redshirt this season after having Tommy John surgery. He played summer ball for the Fayetteville (N.C.) SwampDogs of the Coastal Plain League last year. He was 1-3 with 25 strikeouts in 35 innings.

Greene, who was a high school all-stater at Class 3A Bullard, batted .290 as a sophomore at A&M. Greene played summer ball for the Beatrice (Neb.) Bruins in the M.I.N.K. (Missouri, Iowa, Nebraska and Kansas) League after his freshman season at A&M. He batted .303 with 10 RBIs, 22 runs, five doubles, two triples and 16 stolen bases.

Parsons helped The Woodlands win the Class 5A state championship as a junior by hitting .401 with 27 doubles. He was a third-team All-American at Navarro after hitting .415 with 10 home runs and 45 RBIs. He was drafted in the 41st round of the Major League Baseball draft last year by Tampa Bay.

Daab was 20-3 at Katy High with 193 strikeouts in two seasons.

The Bombers open the season at McKinney on June 5. The home opener is June 9, also against McKinney. The Bombers' 48-game season runs through Aug. 8.
