Aggies lose to Western Kentucky: Western Kentucky made Texas A&M pay for five errors and defeated the Aggies 5-1 on Friday before 2,952 at Baylor Ballpark in the QTI Baylor Classic.
The Hilltoppers (3-1) scored four unearned runs off three Aggie miscues in the decisive fourth inning, building a 5-0 lead.
A&M (3-2) will face Bayor in a nonconference game at 1 p.m. Saturday at Baylor Ballpark.
SOFTBALL
Aggies bounce back at Classic: CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. -- The Texas A&M softball team lost twice Thursday but bounced back Friday for a 4-3 victory over UNLV and a 7-6 victory over San Diego State in eight innings at the Cathedral City Classic.
Senior Macie Morrow drove in the winning runs in both games for the Aggies (12-3).
A&M will face Stanford at noon Saturday.
TRACK & FIELD
Aggies have big Day 1 at Big 12 meet: AMES, Iowa -- Texas A&M put itself in position to compete for team titles with a strong performance on Day 1 of the Big 12 Indoor Track & Field Championships on Friday at the Lied Recreation-Athletic Facility.
Nebraska leads the men's competition with 41 points with five finals completed, while the Aggies are in eighth place with 10.5 points.
Texas Tech tops the women with 48.5 points through six finals, while the Aggies have 13.5 points and stand in sixth place.
The Aggies earned 23 spots in Saturday's finals with the women qualifying in 14 events and the men in nine.
Joe Sauvageau moved from 10th to fifth place over the latter half of the 5,000 meters and finished in a personal best of 14:16.18, third fastest all-time at A&M.
Deidre Tarver placed fifth in the weight throw at 59-1.5. Laura Asimakis tied for sixth in the pole vault by clearing 12-8.75.
Vashti Thomas finished sixth in the long jump with a leap of 20-3.5. Sasha-Kay Matthias finished in eighth at 19-11.75.
Tyron Stewart tied for sixth in the long jump with mark of 24-7.25 (7.50).

In the pentathlon, A&M's Daphne Fitzpatrick and Bonnie Richardson placed sixth and 16th, respectively. Nebraska placed 1-2-4 in the event for an early 23 points.
Fitzpatrick scored 3,692 points for a new career best. Richardson cleared just one height in the high jump and didn't register a mark in the long jump to finish with 2,817 points.
A&M's Cole Knuth placed seventh in the weight throw at 59-4 .
A&M's Brett Bennett tied for eighth in the pole vault, clearing a personal best of 16-5.5.
