CROSS COUNTRY
Seven Aggies named to Academic All-Big 12 team: Seven Texas A&M cross country runners were named to the 134-member Academic All-Big 12 team Wednesday.
A&M's first-team selections are Will Barry, Mitch Bible, Weston Caceras, Joe Sauvageau, Kirsten Brown and Kasey McNorton. Graham Northcutt made the second team.
First-team members must maintain at least a 3.20 GPA, while second-team members must have a 3.0 or higher. Barry is one of seven Big 12 runners with a 4.0 GPA.
BASEBALL
Stripling pitches well for Farmers: Sophomore Ross Stripling tossed a complete-game four-hitter to lead the Farmers to a 6-2 victory over the Plowboys in Game 2 of Texas A&M's Fall World Series on Wednesday at Olsen Field.
Stripling needed just 84 pitches to wrap up the victory, allowing only a two-run home run in the second inning. He did not walk a batter and struck out eight to push the Farmers to within one victory of the Fall World Series crown.
The Farmers had 11 hits, including two home runs, a triple and a double. Sophomore shortstop Adam Smith led the Farmers with three hits and two RBIs, including a homer and triple.
BASKETBALL
Maroon & White Games set for Saturday: The Texas A&M men's and women's basketball teams will play their Maroon & White Games on Saturday morning at Reed Arena.
The women's game will be at 9 a.m. followed by the men's at 11 a.m. Admission is free.
The A&M football team plays Iowa State at 2:30 p.m. at Kyle Field. Football game day parking guidelines are in effect.
A&M's men will play Texas A&M-Commerce in a exhibition Nov. 5 at Reed Arena. The women play an exhibition against Oklahoma City University on Nov. 12 at Reed Arena.
TENNIS
Aggie doubles team in ITA tournament: Texas A&M junior All-American Austin Krajicek and junior newcomer Jeff Dadamo won the Wilson/ITA Texas Regional doubles title Wednesday at the Mitchell Tennis Center, beating Texas Tech's Raony Carvalho and Rafeal Garcia 3-6, 7-6 (8), 7-6 (5).
It marks the second straight year A&M will be sending a doubles team to the ITA Indoor Championships, set for Nov. 5-8 at Yale in New Haven, Conn. Krajicek and Conor Pollock advanced last year. A&M's Shuon Madden and Dumitru Caradima advanced in 1998, while Cody Hubbell and Jarin Skube advanced in 200.
SWIMMING
Wilkinson wins Big 12 award: Texas A&M senior Julia Wilkinson won the first Big 12 Swimmer of the Week honor of the season after a pair of strong performances at the Big 12 Relays and a dual meet against Missouri.
Wilkinson, who missed last season due to shoulder surgery, won three individual events and swam on five winning relay teams over the two meets.
Kansas diver Meg Proehl and Texas' Ricky Berens and Drew Livingston also earned Big 12 weekly honors.
