Childress fills coaching void: Justin Seely has been promoted to assistant baseball coach and recruiting coordinator at Texas A&M, head coach Rob Childress announced Tuesday.
"Justin is someone who was a special player and is a special coach," Childress said. "He is very familiar with our system and our program, and that will make for a very smooth transition for everyone. We know he is the best fit for us and we are very excited."
Seely served the 2009 season as the Aggies' volunteer assistant coach, where he was in charge of the outfielders, assisted with on-campus recruiting and coached first base. He fills the spot vacated by Jeremy Talbot in July.
"I'm really excited about the opportunity that this staff has given me," Seely said. "I am very familiar with them and have always admired them from afar. Hopefully I'll be able to make my mark on the program and help us get to where we need to be."
Seely came to A&M after spending the 2008 season as an assistant at Texarkana College. Under former Aggie assistant Will Bolt, Seely was the recruiting coordinator and hitting coach, and the Bulldogs led the league in multiple categories and finished third or better in hits, slugging percentage, doubles, on-base percentage and home runs. His final recruiting class helped build the '09 Bulldogs into conference champions and get within one win of the JUCO World Series.
A starter on Nebraska's first two College World Series teams, Seely spent the 2006 and 2007 seasons as a volunteer assistant at his alma mater. His extensive work with the Husker outfielders paid dividends in 2006, as three earned All-Big 12 honors.
The Nacogdoches native served as the Huskers' starting outfielder and designated hitter during his two years in the program. He made 87 starts, hitting .355 with 11 homers and 65 RBIs at NU. His best season came in 2002, where he hit .320 with 19 doubles, seven homers and 37 RBIs in helping the Huskers return to the College World Series. Seely was best known for his grand slam in the decisive third game of the Super Regional against Richmond, a blast that sealed NU's second straight trip to Omaha.

No. 7 Aggie soccer places 2 on watch list: Texas A&M junior goalkeeper Kristin Arnold and sophomore defender Bri Young were among the 45 Division I intercollegiate soccer players that were named to the Missouri Athletic Club's Hermann Trophy Watch List for 2009.
Ranked seventh in the preseason NSCAA poll released Tuesday, the Aggie soccer team was the only school in the Big 12 to have two players named to the list.
Arnold was sidelined early last year after sustaining a knee injury. She redshirted and after A&M finished in the NCAA Tournament she played for the U-23 Women's National Team in Northern Ireland.
Young was one of just 11 sophomores to make the preseason list. She earned several postseason honors highlighted by the Soccer Buzz Freshman All-America first team. Since last season, the Castle Pines North, Colo., native played for the U-20 WNT in Spain and the U-23 WNT in Northern Ireland with Arnold.
