BV Bombers hosting NCBA event: Texas A&M, TCU, Houston and Baylor are competing in the NCBA Gulf Coast Preseason Tournament at Brazos Valley Bank Ballpark this weekend.
The event began Friday night with more games set for 10 a.m., 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Sunday.
The college baseball teams are nonvarsity club programs affiliated with the National Club Baseball Association.
EQUESTRIAN
Aggie riders beat K-State on tiebreaker: MANHATTAN, Kan. -- The third-ranked Texas A&M equestrian team went to a second tiebreaker for the first time in school history Friday to beat seventh-ranked Kansas State at Fox Creek Farm.
With the overall score tied 9-9, judges went to the first tiebreaker, which sees each team drop one hunter seat ride and one western ride, then combine raw scores.
After that resulted in a tie, the second tiebreaker was used, which combines all raw scores. A&M held a 62.5-point edge there at 1423-1360.5. It was the Aggies' second win in a row and first on the road this season.
A&M freshman Kori Pickett picked up her first career MVP honor with an 81-76 victory over KSU's Jen Rawle.
A&M will compete against fourth-ranked Oklahoma State at 10 a.m. Saturday in Stillwater, Okla.
SWIMMING & DIVING
Aggies drop dual meet to Texas: AUSTIN -- The Texas A&M women's swimming and diving team lost a dual meet to Texas, 166-134, on Friday at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center.
Julia Wilkinson posted victories in the 100 backstroke (54.26 seconds) and the 100 freestyle (49.71), and took second in the 200 individual medley (2:01.84). All of Wilkinson's individual races produced NCAA "B" cut clockings.
Alia Atkinson swept her specialty with wins in the 100 breaststroke (1:01.49) and 200 breaststroke (2:11.85), both in NCAA "B" cut times.
Maria Sommer grabbed gold in the 50 free in a "B" cut time of 23.00, and Kristen Heiss was victorious in the 200 back in "B" cut of 1:57.88.
TENNIS
Aggies beat top-ranked doubles team at ITA Indoors: NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- Texas A&M junior All-American Austin Krajicek and junior Jeff Dadamo beat Tennessee's top-ranked J.P. Smith and Davey Sandgren 8-3 in the quarterfinals Friday at the ITA National Indoor Championships.
The Aggies will face Duke's Reid Carleton and Henrique Cunha at 8 p.m. Saturday in the semifinals.
