The NCAA has granted a waiver for Texas A&M to host the 2012 Fox Sports Southwest 7-on-7 state football championships, A&M's director of compliance David Batson said Tuesday.

A&M has been the site of the summer event since 1998, but the Southeastern Conference doesn't allow members to host such events. A&M is moving to the SEC after this school year, and the conference recently granted A&M a one-time waiver to host the state 7-on-7 football tournament. The NCAA did the same Tuesday.

"We are pleased the NCAA and the SEC offices approved of this upcoming championship," A&M athletics director Bill Byrne said. "I appreciate the hard work and efforts by the Bryan-College Station community in hosting and the waiver prepared by our compliance office at Texas A&M."

Batson said A&M will continue to try to host the event in the future.

Frisco, San Antonio and Round Rock have been mentioned as possible sites for the state 7-on-7 football tournament if A&M isn't able to host it.
