Aggie Russell advances at U.S. Amateur

ERIN, Wis. -- Texas A&M senior All-American Jordan Russell won the first two holes and led throughout a 5 and 3 victory over high school senior Bryson Dechambeau of Clovis, Calif., in the second round of the U.S. Amateur Championship on Thursday at Erin Hills Golf and Country Club.
The victory moves Russell, a former A&M Consolidated standout, into the round of 16 against 26-year-old Bobby Leopold of Rhode Island. They will play at 7:30 a.m. Friday with the quarterfinals set for the afternoon.
A&M sophomore Jade Scott (pictured) lost to U.S. Junior Amateur champion Jordan Spieth 2 and 1 in the first round Thursday.
