Peck leads A&M to solid start at NCAA Golf Championships

STILLWATER, Okla. -- Texas A&M's Cameron Peck shot a 4-under 68 to help the Aggies finish the first round of the NCAA Men's Golf Championships in fourth place at Karsten Creek Golf Club on Tuesday.
Peck is alone in second place behind Georgia Tech's James White, who shot 67 to help the Yellow Jackets take the early team lead at 5-under 283.
UCLA shot 286 with Alabama in third at 288 and the Aggies at 289. Illinois, Georgia and Ohio State are tied for for fifth at 291 followed by Oklahoma State (292), Augusta State (294), Kennesaw State and San Diego State (295), Arkansas (296) and Texas (299).
The top eight teams after three rounds will play head-to-head matches beginning Friday to determine the national champion.
A&M's Ignacio Elvira opened with a 72. Teammates Jordan Russell shot 73, John Hurley 76 and Conrad Shindler 77.
