SWIMMING & DIVING
Two A&M swimmers named to academic team: Texas A&M junior Alyssa Conner and sophomore Cheyne Hermes earned spots on the Capital One Academic All-District At-Large Team and advance to the Academic All-America team ballot.
Both Aggies carry a 4.0 GPA, Conner as a marketing major and Hermes as an economics major.
First-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
TENNIS
Aggies advance to Elite Eight in doubles: STANFORD, Calif. -- Texas A&M seniors Austin Krajicek and Jeff Dadamo advanced to the Elite Eight at the NCAA doubles tournament Friday, beating Auburn's Daniel Cochrane and Tim Puetz 3-6, 6-1, 6-2 at the Taube Family Tennis Center.
Krajicek improved his school record in doubles victories to 109.
The Aggies will face Baylor's Roberto Maytin and John Peers on Saturday. The Bears beat Michigan's Jason Jung and Evan King 7-6, 6-2 to advance.
Maytin and Peers beat Krajicek and Dadamo 8-4 on April 20 in Waco in a dual match the last time they met.
TRACK & FIELD
Aggie breaks old school record in men's 800: EUGENE, Ore. -- Texas A&M's Joey Roberts broke a 24-year-old school record by taking second in the 800-meter quarterfinals in 1 minute, 46.89 seconds Friday before 6,614 at Hayward Field in the NCAA West Preliminary Rounds.
Roberts earned one of the Aggies' 12 berths to the NCAA Championships.
On the women's side, A&M's Sasha-Kay Matthias (triple jump), Andrea Sutherland (400 hurdles), Jessica Beard (400), Jeneba Tarmoh (100) and Ashley Collier (100) earned Championships berths. Sutherland, Beard and Tarmoh won their quarterfinal races to advance.
On the men's side joining Roberts, A&M's Michael Preble (800), Demetrius Pinder (400), Tabarie Henry (400), Bryan Miller (400), Gerald Phiri (100), Prezel Hardy Jr. (100) earned Championships berths. Pinder and Phiri won their quarterfinal races.
A&M also advanced nine sprinters in the 200 to Saturday's quarterfinals along with four hurdlers.
The national meet is set for June 8-11 in Des Moines, Iowa.
