A&M softball team to host Oklahoma State.
The 22nd-ranked Texas A&M softball team can set the school record for most consecutive home victories this weekend and clinch at least a tie for third place in the Big 12.
The Aggies (37-13, 9-5) will play the 16th-ranked Oklahoma State Cowgirls (37-12, 8-5) on Saturday and Sunday at the Aggie Softball Complex with both games starting at 1 p.m. in a series that also could have implications for the 64-team NCAA tournament field, which will be announced at 9 p.m. May 15 on ESPN (Ch. 27). OSU is ranked 16th in this week's NCAA RPI, while A&M is 25th.
Third-ranked Texas (44-6, 13-2) and ninth-ranked Missouri (42-6, 11-2) will battle for the league lead in Columbia, Mo., this weekend in the league's other big series, while 20th-ranked Baylor (37-12, 8-7) and 15h-ranked Oklahoma (36-16, 8-8) are in the running for top-four conference finishes.
A&M has bounced back from a three-game losing streak to win seven of its last nine, four of them against ranked teams. A&M beat Texas 5-1 on Wednesday night that stretched the team's winning streak at the Aggie Softball Complex to 20 games. That's a game shy of the school record set by the 2005 team, which had current OSU head coach Rich Wieligman as its hitting coach. In his fifth season at OSU, Wieligman has rebuilt the Cowgirls program which enjoyed a 40-win season last year for the first time since 1998 and made its second straight NCAA tournament appearance.
Both A&M-OSU games will be broadcast on KZNE (1150 AM).
A&M will conclude the regular season next weekend with two games against eighth-place Texas Tech (40-12, 5-11).
