Missouri beats A&M softball to sweep series
Staff and wire report
COLUMBIA, Mo. - Missouri's Chelsea Thomas pitched a four-hitter Sunday to lead the Tigers to a 3-0 victory over Texas A&M for a sweep of the Big 12 weekend series.
Thomas (17-3), who allowed five hits in a 6-3 victory Saturday, got her eighth shutout of the season. She struck out nine and walked one to lead Missouri to its nation-leading 30th straight home victory.
Rhea Taylor's bunt single to open the fourth led to Missouri's first run with help from A&M pitcher Lindsey Sisk. Sisk's errant throw on the bunt put Taylor on second. Taylor scored on Ashley Fleming's slow roller when Sisk was forced to take the out at first after not fielding the softball cleanly. Missouri's Jenna Marston had an RBI double in the fifth. Princess Krebs' single to start the sixth led to the final run for Missouri (32-5, 7-1).
Cassie Tysarczyk, Rhiannon Kliesing, Amber Garza and Kelsea Orsak had hits for A&M (30-11, 3-4).
Sisk (14-4) suffered the loss, allowing two runs on two walks and six hits in five innings.
"I thought Lindsey did a good job out there," A&M head coach Jo Evans said. "But when you play a good team like that, you have to make plays. First of all, they get the leadoff hit and Lindsey's got to make the play and she throws wide, and they ended up scoring off of that one. That kills you. A couple of walks hurt us, too. Two walks in that game ended up scoring with two outs. It's just frustrating. We've got to get better at that."
