Funeral services were held Tuesday for John Mark Stallings, the son of Texas A&M System Regent and former football coach Gene Stallings.

John Mark, 46, of Powderly died Saturday at the Paris Regional Medical Center, according to an online obituary in The Paris News of Paris, Texas.

Stallings had Down Syndrome, prompting his father to become an advocate for special education. John Mark's story was detailed by his father in the book Another Season, and Faulkner University in Alabama announced Tuesday that it plans to name a new football stadium after him.

Funeral services were held at the Lamar Avenue Church of Christ in Paris. Burial was set to follow at Hike-A-Way Ranch in nearby Powderly.
